Dear all, Please let me know whether it is mandatory to provide monthly pay slips to workers in a factory? If yes, under which law and specific provision? Regards, Swapnil

Dear Swapnil,
If your establishment is covered under M W Act then you are required to issue wage slips to employees as per sec. 18(3) of Minimum Wages Act, 1948 & the Rules made thereunder. If your appropriate Govt is Central Govt. then go through M W (Central Rules) 1950 otherwise go through your applicable State Rules.

Section 13A Maintenance of registers and records.
If we read between the lines it talks about receipts given by the employer..and pay slip is the receipt which is to be given to employee ..which provide detail of salary and various deductions.

Dear member,
Thank you very much for the reply.
But in s. 13A. it states ....the receipts given by them... here "them" refers to employees and not to employer. So it is the receipt given by the employee.
Do you think that still s. 13 A covers the issuing of wage slips?

Hi,
According to me section 13A covers point of issuing of wage slip because....In earlier time and still in some small industries workers were paid in cash and at a time of payment they had to signed in salary registrar in which detail of income is mentioned so that worker can check and confirm the details....as HR process were developed, organization spread over more than one location and salary directly credited into employees a/c then salary slips as practice become mode of communication by which employee can check there income and deduction because it is not practical and convenient for employer to show them salary registrar......and "the receipts given by them" for employer in todays form is confirmation from bank that salary is credited into employee a/c.
