Dear Rajus,

First and foremost when you ask some information, it is pertinent to provide some basic information like your name, your designation, nature of your company or finished product/service etc.

The second set of information is why you ask this information? Has your superior told you to launch "Buddy Programme" in your company or is it your idle intellectual curiosity? What challenges you face from your old employees? What kind of training you have given to them?

Efficacy apart, I am yet to come across with any write up or case study on ROI on "Buddy Programme". A real organisational change can come only if you are clear on the ROI on the investment you do in these kind of activities. These are not OD interventions as such.

Modern HR has habit of taking fancy of these fads. But then sans clarity on ROI, it is just waste of time and resources too. Occasionally articles on subjects of these kind appear in some newspaper or magazines.

If you want your old employees to stay motivated or execute the responsibilities of higher order, then you may do the career plan for each one of them, identify the competencies required to handle future assignments effectively and train them on these competencies. This will work far more effectively. You will be able to measure whether the individual has mastered particular competency or not.

Ok...

Dear Mr. Dinesh,
Many thanks for your feedback & comments with suggestions......my name is Rajendra Sharma - i am recent joiner of this site..... just trying to learn the basics.. as of now i dont feel the need to disclose my company's name....
While going through the site, i came across the subject "BUDDY PROGRAM" which i believe is for new employees/joinees, so just thought of knowing if there is something similar to it for old employees..
Budget, cost involved, expenses to be incurred for conducting for such program - all these issues may & shall be discussed if we come to know that such program do exists & what are the possible benefits of conducting such programs in ANY organization whether big or small....
Regards,
Rajendra K Sharma.

Dear Rajendra
Apart from your other queries on this, you have also wanted to know whether such programs exist and the possible benefits.
Even if it exists in certain companies, it is not well documented as one has not come across such programs.
Why should a company indulge in this for 'old' employees ??
The purpose of a "buddy program"in addition to a well-laid out Induction program is to acquaint the new joinee and make him feel comfortable in the organization.
Moreover, a newcomer may need guidance and help initially to get started; and once he finds his own feet in the organization, these crutches become redundant.
On the contrary, the old employees being familiar with most of the employees, "choose" their own "buddies" without any formal help from HR or HRD.
Warm regards.
