hi hemaa,
Well this is a problem which almost hr department would be facing, merely because we are concerned about the feedback of our initiatives.
not only does an hr department faces such a situation, but if we map this situation to the real world we are always in a dilemma, whether the gift we are giving to our loved ones would be appreciated or not.
one probable situation could be "involve the employees", let them speak their heartout as what "THEY" want in a christmas party or in any other situation for that matter.
the advantage of adopting such a plan is that, primarily the employees feel important as their opinion is valued.
also an action(xmas party) for someone(employees) will yield best result when the action is in accordance to the preferences of the employees.
thus u can try the following:
ask what the employees want in xmas party
besides the lip work, ask them how would they contribute for the same eg, decoration, singing carols, a employee good at cooking can bake a cake.
if ur co has department or teams, u can always arrange for a small competition such as best decoration and so on.
well that was my opinion, please do let me know the feasibility of the same as well as any improvements, ur comments as well
thanks and regards

Thanks for your insight.
Yes, we did involve the employees and ran a poll seeking their opinion. We are planning decoration contest & creatively dressed person contest on that day.
Apart from these contests, we are in need of ideas for different games to entertain the crowd for about 60 minutes, before we break for christmas dinner.

Hi hema.,
Check it out the following icebreaker whether it suits to ur ocassion
Name of Icebreaker - Biscuit Tin
Category of Icebreaker - Communication
Time Scales - 20 Minutes
Size of Group - 10 +
Materials Required: - Empty Biscuit Tin, Strips of paper, stopwatch &
pens
Aim of Icebreaker: To encourage participation and teamwork within the
group and
to enhance communication skills
Pre-Organisation
None
Process
Give each team member 6 strips of blank paper and ask them to write a
different
famous person on each one. They must then fold the piece of paper
twice so will
not fall open easily. Once they have all done this, they put their
pieces of
paper into the biscuit tin. You must then split the group in to teams
of 5 or 6
and the teams are to sit together. One person in Team A starts. You
start the
stopwatch.
The first person has to pick a strip of paper out of the tin and
explain to their
own team who that person is without saying their name. Once their team
has
guessed that person correctly then they put that strip of person to the
side and
take out another piece and explains again who that person is. When one
minute is
up you shout STOP and the biscuit tin is passed to Team B. If a team
member does
not know who the person is on the piece of paper then they can put it
back folded
into the tin. They are only allowed to do this 3 x per go. You must
be keep
score of the number of correct guesses each team has and the winning
team is the
team with the highest score.

Hi Heema:
There are many;
Indoor :
1. Parcing the parcel - Play it differently by adding the theme - Changing names.
Give the parcel to anyone and ask them to do whatever is written in it, now the box needs to be moved to another person by calling their name, the second person should do and then pass it to the next person by calling their name.
Rules: NO names should be repeated, also they should not call their friends names(people who sit the same cubical or bay).
(This game is just make sure everyone knows eachother)
2. Treaure hunt - 2 ways (one you could give a gift wrap and ask them to identity whats in it), the other game is keep something hidden and give them clues
3. Khon bhanega Luckpatty?? (this would be similar the the KBC game, but at the final round you get a gift)
4. As usual - Dumbsharad and musical chair
5. Paint the picture - You could draw a Santa and ask anyone to fraw eyes or the hat to santa, by closing their eyes...
So have lots of fun & enjoy the festive season......:)
I hope this would be of some help..
