Dear Sir, How much El & Sl is carried forward in an employees' account?
From India, Gurgaon
Dear Sachin,
So far as I know, there is no provision for carrying forward unavailed S.L in a particular year to the following year but it would get automatically lapsed with the close of the year.
On the contrary, EL can be carried over to the succeeding years subject to certain ceiling as stipulated in the establishment-specific labor law applicable to your establishment.

Sick Leave can be carried forward upto a certain limit. In some companies, management permit upto 30 days in some other companies 40 days- depending upon the leave Policy in HR Manual of the company.
Casual Leave can not be carried forward - unavailed portion of the Casual leave shall be automatically lapsed at the end of year.
PL/Earned leave can be carried forward, upto the limit prescribed under the Leave policy of company. It is seen that 60 days or 90 days EL/PL accumulation is permitted.

Dear Member,
If your establishment is situated in the state of Haryana then either of the Act will be applicable to your establishment i.e. Factories Act,1948 or Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1958 as applicable to the state of Haryana. If your establishment is covered under S&E Act then in accordance with the applicable Act you can accumulate 30 days EL while SL will lapse at the end of the year. In 2nd case if you are covered under Factories Act, 1948 then in that case you can accumulate 30 days EL while SL will be granted under applicable PIE (National & Festival Holidays & Casual & Sick Leaves) Act, 1965 & the same will be lapsed at the end of the year.

Dear Sachin,
The EL can only carry forward but not SL, the balance SL lapsed at the end of calendrer year if not availed. The balance El carry forward at the end of calendrer year. You need to fix a limit of EL accumulation in an employees' account as it suits to your establishment in accordance with the law of the state.

I think that the question raised by Sachin pertains only to the accumulation of the EL and S.L statutorily applicable to his establishment. But Mr. R.K.Nair's reply refers to the practice adopted by some companies that cannot be disputed for whatever the types of the establishments run by the company such a provision is a more beneficial one.. Unfortunately, the poster has not come out with any clarification in this regard though I indicated the point simply based on the place from where he raised the thread.
So far as I know, except the West Bengal Shops and Establishments Act,1963 which provides for Sick Leave on half pay for 14 days with medical certificate u/s 11 (b) and permits its accumulation up to a maximum of 56 days, no other State S&E Act permits accumulation of S.L. Even the Model S&E Act,2016 passed by the Central Govt does not specify any sick leave.
