Hello members,

I am Deepthi Reddy Renati, a student of School of Management. I completed my I yr MBA and am doing my summer proj in a major newspaper organisation. I wanted to specialise in HR and thus got into this company for a HR proj.

They asked me to decide on the topic and i chose it to be " Employee turn over - the ways to reduce it" as i could make out that the ratio was high in some departments and in the company as a whole.

I have calculated the ratios taking the number of employees leaving the company in one financila year and the total number of employees. I have got some reasons for the turn over from the exit interview forms also.

Now, i want to make a survey on the employees who are in the company about the problems they have and their feeling about the issues i could make out from the exit forms.

But this is not being encouraged from my guide here as:

1. It is a very big organisation where a single person cannot take decisions.

2. A survey of this kind would kindle expectations of the employees that the organisation would take into consideration these problems and would make some useful changes.

3. The Head of the department has recently left the organisation.

4. So, nor the HR Manager here nor myself can promisee anything to the employees on behalf of the organisation.

5. If no good occurs after the survey, the employee gets demotivated.

So all of these are becoming obstacles in carrying out my project. So my boss wants me to change the topic.

I will be very happy and thankful to you if you can suggest me some ways to do my project in a different angle without any problems.[/b]

Dear Deepthi,
In my opinion, you need not chnge the topic as nothing is impossible if your motive is right. In my philosphy, even the word IMPOSSIBLE says I M POSSIBLE. So don't look back, rather change your path to lead to the destination.
Do an open house survey with a motivational element attached to it. Ask open suggestions from the Staff to give a factor responsible for employee turnover & ask them to suggest an innovative remedy. And put a factor that 'best out of all' will get recognition & an award too.
This way your purpose would also be solved & the sensitive issues would remain least affected.
Cheers!!!

Hi deepa
I am also a student doing my MBA and completed my Ist year and i am on my summer project. I am doing my project in "Balanced Scorecard". Hope your can take that topic which will be helpful to you and if you like to go for employee turnover, rather change the topic as employee attitude or employee satisfaction.
Be sure that you take a topic which is very simple and cam be completed since HR projects are always qualitative and not quantitative.
Best of luck for your project

Dear Deepa,

Although your topic is very good and has a wide scope.

But since this is your first industrial project, I shall suggest , dont take any chances with your opportunity and time period in hand.

You must focuss on learning at this stage. If you manage to study in and out of some topic during your summers, you can feel the battle to be won.

this period will not onlymaster of one subject(you are studyiong) but would also give you a professional perspective to look at he things around you.

So at this point of time, instead of struggling and wasting your time, you should go head and select som topic, which would be able to help you develop as a proefessional and dont think missing on this opportunity to give a fight to the obstacles, would be the end of the story.. No.. there are hundreds of challenges that you would be facing and with ample of time and resources to get over them..

sbut for the starters.. statrt on to someting, which would give you lots in return of your investment.

All the Very Best..

Cheers

hi deepa,
i think more than going for the interview. you can try to know what all the reason can be from the people with whom you converse freely in the organisation. then accoding to that you can try to concentrate on factors more on how to restrict this turnover than concentrating on finiding th reasons for the turnover. people are doing many research to find some good effective solution on turnover. so you can try to concentrate on that
some say t&D, Perforamnce management or appraisal, carear management like this many factor to can help to reduce that. or you can take any new project like if they don have Performance management u can try to see how you can implement it or hris efficency increase. etcc.,
