Before sending Termination Letter directly, issue him a show cause memo/warning letter for poor performance, wait for his reply give him/her chance to improve his/her performance even after giving sufficient chance to improve, if the employee is not working as per the expectation you can terminate. If the employee is under probation extend the probation period further with the reason stating performance below expectation.
