Dear Omega consultants,
Is this query for your client? In fact as a consultant, you should be giving reply to a query of this kind and it should not be other way round!
Your client has 50 persons and it is start up. Therefore, it is important to put up conscious effort to give definite shape to your organisation's culture. It is this culture, that will foster or hold growth in future. At this stage, your priority should be on creating a culture of performance. When I say, culture of performance, I mean to say, you need to measure business performance vis-z-vis individual performance. Your client is into dairy farming. Therefore, your efforts should be focused to manage the following costs:
a) Inventory Carrying Cost of Raw Materials
b) Work in Progress (WIP) Inventory Costs
c) Inventory Carrying Cost of Finished Goods
d) Capital costs to run the operations
e) Capacity costs
f) Maintenance costs
g) Quality costs
h) Inspection costs
This is just the representative list of the costs. List can grow longer as well. To manage the above costs, first you need to know how to measure these cost scientifically. Inaccurate measurement will give inaccurate results and obviously it will impact your future growth. Your recruitment, training and all other HR systems should help managing these costs. While reducing some cost, something else should not go up!
HR Jargon: - I strongly urge not to fall prey to HR jargon. I have seen lot of companies wherein the jargon has not reflected in the balance sheet. These include companies that practise Balance Score Card (BSC) as well.
If you wish, you may take me on board for the consulting. The outcome will depend on the autonomy that you and your client will offer to me.
All the best!
