Is paternity leave a right of employees by law or varies according to the policies of the companies? Also can you give me examples of few IT companies in Mumbai who are giving this provision of paternity leave ?

Paternity leave is not in force as per law. It is purely a company prerogative. There are several companies which have started granting paternity leaves to their employees. It all depends upon how good is the company's employee relations. Sorry to say that names of companies cannot be disclosed in a forum like this irrespective of whether it is in favour of the company or against the company.

There is no legal obligation for the employer to grant any employee paternity leave in India. However, many organisations have started granting their employees paternity leave lately, more as a goodwill gesture.
