We are having a 200MT crawler crane with lattice boom at site. There was a 4 fall rope in the crane. Now they extended the boom with 2 fall rope. My doubt is
1. Whether the load chart is mentioning only boom capacity?
2. If yes then how to find rope capacity?
crane operator is telling that load chart value only for boom angle and it's capacity. Rope is 28mm. Don't know what kind of rope exactly and he is telling 14 MT capacity per fall.

As said by Raghu, carefully check the load chart and the No. of falls for the capacity. Sometimes, the Foremen go by shortcut method of reducing the falls to save the time of lift. Are u talking about fly jib? Flyjib normally with single rope fall with ball hook for such cranes.

As per ur description, definitely there is a chance of reduction of SWL if fall is reduced to 2 from 4. But in this case u have to check the breaking strength of the rope bcz during designing of crane SWL, breaking strength of the rope used to consider. So normal SWL of the rope for 28mm if u consider then u will not get the real figure. Also please check the crane manual that for 250 Ton SWL, what is the no. of fall as per manufacturer. Then also u may get an idea. U will not get such details from the load chart, u have to consult with the crane manual. Hope this will clear ur doubts.

Also u check the type of rope i.e whether it is locked coil rope or non-spinning rope or any special type. For such kind of special rope which used to use in the crane, the SWL will be more than (may be double) as per the calculation of 8dsquare. All these details u will get from manual. If manual is not there, then there will be problem to come to a safe conclusion. But definitely as per the operator u can not take it granted that nothing will happen.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions. I don't have manual for the particular crane. Only load chart is there. No of falls in the crane is not mentioned in that chart. I found type of the rope and calculated SWL.
SWL is mentioned in load chart incorporate with boom angle and work radius. My doubt is whether that SWL is only for boom capacity or include hoisting rope? As i don't have crane manual, i couldn't find the answer.

SWL mentioning in the Load Chart is always considering the hoisting rope also... No need to get further confuse...
Also did you know the concept of Capacity Lifting?
First of all we should not encourage the use of cranes without SLI installed... If no SLI you should allow to lift the 50% Capacity Lifting only... Means if the Load Chart is showing a lifting capacity of 10 Ton, you may suggest to lift upto 5 Ton...
