A good question to think and analysis. of course i am not clear that is there any rule that guiding the uniform for workers.

i want to share something i know

Uniforms to workers - a welfare measure. some times the uniforms are provide to the workers for the safety measures. both are comes under factories of act 1948.

up to my knowledge there is no specific rule to force the employer to provide uniform to its workers. But the factories of act 1948 insisting the employer to take safety measures.

But under Industrial Employment act 1946 the employer can make it as a standing order that the workers must wear uniform when he in on duty.

In some cases the unions in their settlement itself make the employer to provide uniform to its workers.

In some private establishment the uniform cost has been deducting by the employer from the employees / staffs wages/salary

Welfare within the precincts of an establishment - It includes medical aid, creches, canteens, supply of clean drinking water, health services, uniforms and protective clothing, rest shelters, etc. It is the employer's responsibility to provide these facilities to his/ her employees

Issue of uniform to the workers/employees will be common in some departments in the factory to the Fitters, turners, operators, oilmen, electrician, drivers etc. whose cloths will be soiled to their very nature of nature of job/work in day to day work.
We have to issue tight fitting uniform to the workers working near machines as a safety measure.
In certain companies/establishments, to have uniformity/ employee identity, they will issue uniforms.
As a welfare measure or as a safety aspect, employer will be issuing uniforms.
