I have recently joined an IT company that has been in existence for 3 years. Currently, they are considering obtaining ISO certification for quality and have requested me to gather information on how to apply. I do not have much knowledge about ISO myself, so I am in urgent need of assistance from seniors. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Siddharth. Basically, we need the ISO certification for the software aspect. Our company deals with software development and web solutions. Your information was good, but I believe it was more HR-related. I don't have much knowledge about this ISO certification. Could you please suggest something more briefly?

Dear Priyanky,
You can start by looking at the website of SAI Global (Standards, Compliance, Ethics, GRC, Auditing, Certification, Training). Then, look at the tools available from Qudos Management (ISO9001 Quality, OHS, ISO14001 Environmental software & services | Qudos). Both were used by my company - Project Professionals Group to secure ISO accreditation recently.

Hi,
Where is your IT company located? I can get your IT company ISO 9001:2008 certified in 4 months as I am a Quality Manager and an ISO Consultant for my current IT company. I obtained ISO 9001:2008 certification for our company from GIC, a certifying body for ISO. You would need to spend about Rs 125,000 - Rs 150,000 for your company to get ISO certified in 4-5 months, which includes my consultancy fees, training, and registration from the respective ISO certifying bodies. You would require about Rs 75,000 for consultancy and Rs 75,000 - Rs 100,000 for Certification bodies Auditing Fees.
For your information, ISO 9001 is about implementing a Quality Management System for your IT company. This involves defining Quality Policy, Departmental Quality Objectives, Quality Procedures, Corrective and Preventive Actions for Software Bugs, IT Infrastructure issues, and Delivering Projects on Time with continual improvement for Customer Satisfaction, etc. You can conduct a Customer Satisfaction Survey to understand how your customers feel about your Services, Support, and Project Delivery. This standard is only 14 pages, but it is as valuable as a Bible that you read every morning and practice. ISO 9001:2008 is an excellent standard for IT companies, leading to a definite enhancement in Quality Processes.
If you are interested in hiring my services to drive your company's Quality Initiatives, I can bring about drastic changes in your Quality Processes within six months. I am based out of Bangalore but can assist all clients interested in implementing this standard for their companies.

See, you don't have to worry. There are companies which look after all the documentation part. These companies have all the documents ready industry-wise. You just have to contract with them, and within 2-3 months, you will get the ISO certificate. They will charge you based on the total number of employees. There are companies like TUV and others. So, it is a very easy process.

"Say What You Do and Do What You Say" - Concept of ISO.
First of all, you have to prepare a Quality Manual comprising of quality policy, quality objectives, company procedures, checklist, process flow, and procedure for various departments, their departmental objectives, organization chart, Management responsibility, Resource Management, Product realization, Measurement, analysis & improvement via corrective action request.
My sincere advice for you is to appoint one person for each individual department. The relevant person will prepare the flow and document the procedure. Take a span of time to gather all the documents from each department, and then proceed to compile the Quality Manual, which is more practical and will yield good suggestions.
I have been working on ISO for around 8 years and have implemented and obtained certification for my previous organizations.
Make it a point that while obtaining certification, it should be a team effort leading to more success. I have worked with 3 certifying bodies: BVQI, AQA, SGS. Everywhere, the system conveys the same thing - "Say What You Do and Do What You Say."
I have attached a registration form from one of the certifying bodies; you can contact them directly or email them for future guidance.
