Dear Friends,

I would like to know how to plan for recruiting 100 people within two months. Could someone please let me know how to achieve this? We have a project that will require 100 people in the month of December. I request your suggestions on the action plan and strategy to meet this requirement.

Awaiting suggestions and advice...

Hi,

Time is against you. You can advertise the vacancies on vacancy websites such as Monster or in the local and national press. A quicker route is to do some database mining by acquiring raw CVs posted on recruitment sites such as Monster.

Once you have shortlisted at least 400 suitable CVs, carry out 30-minute telephone interviews with all 400 candidates and reduce to 200 people to bring to interview. If you have done your groundwork well, then you should be able to make 120 offers - not all will accept.

Rough Timeline

Database mining - 40 hours

Telephone interview - (400*30 mins) 200 hours

Face-to-face interviews - (200*45 mins) 150 hours

Sending offer letters - (100*30 mins) 50 hours

Total for recruitment drive = 440 hours = 11 weeks (assuming a 40-hour week) so you are already behind!

Unfortunately, you have only shared with us the number of people you require and the date you need them by. Not much of a scope to work from. Please attach the job descriptions of the vacancies - are we talking about 100 identical positions or 100 different roles? Which location? What skills and experience are you seeking - graduate, non-graduate, someone with specific industry knowledge, etc.

Come back with more details and let's see how we can help you.

Hi Sudha,

I am preparing for an interview on IT recruitment. Could you enlighten me regarding the subject? I would also appreciate insights on job portals, different search options available, and the following topics:

- What is an HR scorecard?
- How can one establish an HR strategy?
- How do we measure the effectiveness of the workforce?
- What constitutes the core competency of HR?
- Can you explain the various selection methods employed in the recruitment and selection process?
- Please describe recruitment channels.
- Differentiate between recruitment and selection processes.
- What are the strategies for mass hiring?
- Sourcing methods for managerial positions.
- Insights on recruitment in the current scenario.

I am looking forward to your valuable suggestions.

Regards,
Sudha

Hi,

I just did a quick search on Monster for engineers with avionics experience, and there are not a lot of jobs on offer. None of the adverts had salary ranges, so benchmarking the salaries will be impossible unless you pay for a database search or place an advert yourself and see what salaries are being quoted in the CVs. Since you are not seeking fresh graduates, this is a tough assignment given the time to complete it. Consider asking the client for more time!

For the more senior positions - ten people with 8-12 years of experience and ten people with 12-16 years of experience - you should expect a 3-6 month lead time to find them all!
