I would like to know how banding is created in an organization with respect to competency mapping and linking that to the compensation philosophy of an organization.

For example, the job grading method could be framed and used for benefits fitment, while the point plan (Hay Plan) could be used for evaluating the 'Point Value' of a job.

What is a better way to create Bands and Levels in a mid-size organization with around 300 employees? Please list any sources that could be referred to for better understanding.
