Why don't you conduct a background verification with his previous employer? Call the HR and mention the person's employee code and designation, and please verify the salary.

I have had this experience before and tried reaching the HR of that company. I later learned that it was a forged document and that the person had left the company a year ago.

As far as the salary slip is concerned, I'm sorry, none of us are in a position to help you understand if it's fake or real. The best option is to call the company's HR (if they don't have HR – please call their accountant) and provide the full name, designation, and PF number.

Dear Pankaj,

Just by seeing the payslip, no one will be able to tell if it is original or a duplicate provided by the employee. It would be better to contact the relevant person at his previous company to obtain the necessary details. If you are unable to do so, there are numerous agencies that can assist you in this matter. They conduct background verifications for new employees at a nominal fee.

Dear Pankaj,

I agree with Bipin. He can do what Bipin's suggestion was. But I want to ask a couple of questions to you.

1. At the time of joining, what type of salary agreement did he receive as a hard copy from his organization?
2. Is there any website for verifying an employee's salary or getting information from his seniors on how they came to know about it?
3. How is he calculating the tax in his organization?

If he finds the answers to the above questions, he can directly determine whether the salary is fake or legitimate.

Thank you.

Dear Pankaj,

As mentioned by the other members, I suggest you conduct a background check or employment verification with his previous employer. You do not need to involve an agency for this. You can contact their HR, reporting manager, or Finance head to check the details.

Thank you.

Hi Pankaj,

Upon reviewing the salary slip, it initially gives the impression of being generated by standard software commonly used in corporations. However, upon closer inspection or upon discussion with someone whose company has a similar type of account management system, they can point out that an important detail is missing - the Employee ID. In companies that utilize fully automated accounting software, having a unique employee ID is essential. Conversely, in cases where manual processes are involved, the salary slip should be signed by an authorized signatory.

I would like to further explain the distinction between automated and manual processes mentioned above. In corporate settings, organizations often have their intranet portals through which they communicate with employees and manage financial and personnel data. In large organizations with tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of employees, individuals typically access and print their salary slips, which are automatically generated and uploaded by the HR and accounts departments onto the portal at the end of each month. Conversely, in smaller organizations that do not employ such systems, salary slips are prepared by the HR/accounts department and handed directly to employees. Since these manually issued salary slips bear the signature of an authorized person, they are counter-signed by the same individual.

Additionally, it is worth noting that the salary slip is in a document format. Typically, automated salary slips are provided in non-editable PDF files to prevent unauthorized alterations.

On a different note, what prompted you to verify the authenticity of this salary slip? Perhaps there are other factors at play that could benefit others? It is advisable to conduct a reference check before drawing any conclusions. We could be mistaken, and this concerns someone's career.

Thank you.

Most of the payslips I have come across have these details as well. I found them missing in this document uploaded:

- Address details of the company (this is generally mentioned in all computer-generated payslips)
- Employee Number or code
- Stamp and signature of the authorized person (an automated one)
- Payslips, in general, are never in a document format. They are usually sent in PDF so that no one can edit the details.
- Days of leave balance

The best thing to do is to call up the HR of the company and do a verification. You need not get a background agency to do it, especially if you haven't tied up with one.

Nikita

Hi Pankaj,

You can use the following steps to identify a fake salary slip:

- Check the NTH amount with the bank statement of the employee for the same period. In the case of cheque payment, the cheque credit amount should be shown in the bank statement.
- The salary slip will contain the PF number along with the employer code. This employer code can be verified on the PF website to identify the company and its contributions.
- Verify the calculation of PF, ESI, PT, etc. as many people make mistakes without knowing the formula.
