Hi all,

Currently, I am working in an Indian MNC as an HR Executive, and we have at least 600 or more workers (most of them are not educated) and more than 250 are staff members. The bad thing is we don't have a training and development department. I want to start some training activities for the workers to educate them because there is a high attrition rate here. How should I proceed?

Regards,
Pranav

Select the Trainees
Select the Training Methods and Mode
Choose a Means of Evaluating

Hi Pranav,

The first step is that you need to identify what training programs would be required for your workers. You mentioned that you need to educate them. But educate them on what? About your company policies and procedures, work ethics, productivity, effective skill enhancement programs, etc.

You have certainly identified the people you need to train. The next step would be as above. Therefore, Frederick's advice would help.

Now that there are 600 people, you would need to prepare a Training Calendar Management Schedule for them. Then coordinate.

It would be best if you could share your company profile, objectives, reason behind training your staff, and I, being in the industry, could guide you.

Feel free to contact me at 09820389180 or email me at imrancchr@yahoo.com.

Imran.

Dear Pranav,

As can be inferred from your email, there are no training and development activities happening in your organization. I would suggest you start this process but take one step at a time.

Employees in your organization may not be tuned to the idea of training and may not understand the benefits.

You would first have to identify training needs. Divide them into technical needs, behavioral needs, and functional needs. Try to gather inputs from team leads, departmental heads, and the business head. Then, you can prepare a white paper stating the problem, the need to combat it, and the benefits that could be derived from it.

You would have to sell this idea to your senior management as the training and OD function gives the best results when there is a top-down approach. Also, your senior team will have to commit to lending their support.

Then, you can identify in-house trainers for technical training and tie up with external vendors for soft skills training. Prepare a training plan (start with two trainings a month) and start rolling it out.

Seek the support of your senior team for maximum participation.

Of course, you would have to prepare an attendance sheet and feedback forms.
