Date of exit of an ex-employer or ex-employee?

Depending upon the employer, it can take a day to more than a few months. It will be updated the next day itself by a good employer having a good Personnel department authorized to use the digital signature. Some employers outsource such activities, and they will visit the company only once or twice. In such a situation, it may take time. But under normal circumstances, they will do it before they upload the next ECR.

Date of exit can be updated only after 2 months of leaving the service (After 2 months you have left the company, effectively 2 months after your last working day). The system checks this condition via whether there is a contribution made by your employer in the last 2 months. If there has been no contribution made by the employer, it allows you to update the Date of Exit in the PF UAN portal.

Under which section is it mentioned that the date of exit can be marked only after two months of leaving? It is true that an employee can withdraw the PF accumulations only after two months of leaving, but the employer can exit an employee immediately after their departure. Moreover, if you delay exiting an employee for two months, that employee will not be able to transfer the funds to the new establishment's PF. Therefore, the employer should mark the exit immediately after the actual exit takes place.

The attachment is not a screenshot of the employer portal but of the employee/member portal. The question here was all about how soon an employer should update or mark an exit. This can be done by the employer on the next day itself by logging into his portal, i.e., the employer portal. Simultaneously, if the employer is not granting an exit to an employee, he can "mark exit" through his portal. This action can be taken after a two-month waiting period. The screenshot supports this process rather than the employer's action of exiting an employee.

Now, as to why the employee portal restricts marking the exit for two months: the withdrawal of PF can only be done two months after leaving an establishment, not when joining an organization where the PF applies. If an employee maintains membership with the same UAN but has different PF member IDs (which change with each employment change, while the UAN stays the same), this question would not have arisen.

Dear All,

Please find attached the Specimen-EPF Exit Document from the Employer Portal. Employers can enter the date of exit in the EPF Employer Portal, which can be the present date or a previous date. If an employee's date of exit is on 15/09/2023, the same can be entered in the Portal from 15/09/2023. A future date of exit cannot be entered.
