Hello,

After the retirement of an employee, both the employer and the employee need to follow certain steps to avail ESI (Employee State Insurance) benefits. Firstly, the employee should inform the employer about their retirement plans well in advance so that the necessary processes can be initiated. Secondly, the employee should verify with their employer that their ESI contributions have been made accurately and regularly during their employment tenure. Next, the retired employee may need to provide necessary documents to the employer, such as their retirement letter, bank account details for pension payment, and any other documents requested by the employer or ESI authorities. Then, the retired employee should approach the relevant ESI office or authority to initiate the process of claiming ESI benefits after retirement. This may involve filling out claim forms and providing supporting documents. After that, the retired employee may need to undergo a medical examination to assess their health condition and determine their eligibility for specific ESI benefits. Finally, once the ESI claim is verified and approved, the retired employee will start receiving the applicable ESI benefits, such as medical coverage, pension, or any other benefits provided by the ESI scheme.

If the employee (insured person) had contributed to ESI for not less than five years preceding his superannuation, the IP and his spouse will continue to get medical benefits by contributing Rs. 120 annually (in lump sum for a year).

In order to get the cover, the employer has to provide a certificate with contribution details for the last five years. Only the serial number in the respective annual contribution will be entertained because the details will be known to the ESIC if they are provided with the IP Number. Ask the employee to contact the Branch Office.
