If an insured employee dies, the eldest surviving member of his family or the person who incurs the expenditure of the funeral of the deceased employee is entitled to reimbursement of such expenditure subject to a maximum of Rs. 1,500. The claim for the payment of funeral expenses should be submitted in the prescribed form along with prescribed documents within 3 months of the death of the insured employee.
No other family member is entitled to use this benefit except the deceased employee according to the ESI Act.
