Dear All,

I am handling the HR department of an automobile dealership with approximately 1500 employees. I am working on employee engagement activities to improve the morale of the employees, but since it is an automobile dealership, it is not easy to coordinate and do activities for the service department due to their tight work schedule.

Please give me ideas that will not consume a lot of time but are effective.

Thanks & Regards,
Sarath

[Sarath, employee engagement is what employers receive in return for having all their executives, managers, and supervisors doing their jobs well. Improving morale is not the same as developing employee engagement.]

Understanding your implied question, you may need to divide them into groups (of 50 or 100) of individuals falling under the same shift schedules. Then, conduct the activities intended in a planned period of time, feasible.

My company has done several different employee engagement activities, including jeans day/casual day, random holidays - for example, National Pretzel Day, during which we randomly spread out different types of pretzels all over the office for people to munch on, and grilling out on nice days during lunchtime.

You ideally conduct an EE survey online using Gallup Q12 to identify the pain areas through the survey. The basis of any EE activity is to identify:
- Honeymooners & hamsters
- Crash & Burn
- Engaged employees
- Almost or partially engaged employees

Based on the type of employee, you need to implement short-term EE programs and then long-term EE programs.

Please see sales strategy, employee engagement, down economy | Keep Sales Staff Engaged During Hard Times and How to Stop Gossip in the Workplace | eHow.com.

I found both of these by Googling. Hence, please "Search before Asking" as Aussie John keeps reminding us.
