If we see that there are some basic issues like inequitable salary, disagreement with the manager or boss, or sometimes personal family problems. These are basic factors that may lead a candidate to seek a change. There is a lesser chance of employee favoritism in such cases, which often occur when credit is taken by another person.

Good Morning....

This question is very interesting and tough too. According to my point of view:

1) If a person/employee is in a lower position (junior/medium level), then he/she mainly looks for monetary benefits and the brand name of the employer (MNC). These would be the main reasons to quit a job.

2) If an employee is in a higher/senior level, then he mainly focuses on career growth and development. So, that would be the reason to quit a job and look for advanced opportunities.

Nowadays, employees are more worried about 'Treatment Issue' and 'Differed Job Profiles' rather than salary issues. Basically, leaders should be more attentive with regard to their team members, but unfortunately, most of the leaders are ignoring it. This also gives bad market branding to the organization.

Of course, disparity, internal politics, favoritism are the other causes for the high attrition.

Dear Friends,

In my opinion, employees usually quit their jobs due to favoritism, especially in the private sector and even in some government offices. Top-level bosses tend to favor only those employees who are in close proximity to them, assuming that these individuals are the only ones sincerely putting in effort. Meanwhile, other employees who are truly dedicated and not wasting time are often overlooked. This is a major reason why many people decide to leave their jobs.

It can also be argued that employees leaving organizations do so because they do not receive proper recognition, both monetarily and non-monetarily.

Thank you for this question and i hope these might be the reason's why employee's quit the job in my perception
firstly it's the Boss Many employees do not leave the job/organization they only Leave the Boss so ultimately if the relationship between Boss & Sub-ordinate is not good they may quit
Secondly it's Inequitable salary Distribution
Thirdly Employee's look for Better prospective (Promotion,s. Designation,s and so on)
Fourthly it's Due to Work Stress, Work load, Change of Work Environment...
Fifthly it comes the recognition
Last is the Personal problems such as Travelling, Family problems....

One of the reasons also includes the dissatisfaction and discomfort between the superior and sometimes between equals. Though it cannot be reasoned why, it's a subtle emotional quarrel that leads to depression and disinterest towards work and the people connected above.

I am not an HR person; I am an IT professional with over 18 years of experience in IT, in the manufacturing sector. Recently, I was going through an article which very truly said that people don't leave an organization; they leave a manager and take along skills and skilled people with them. If there is high attrition, the best place to look for is the immediate manager.

Hello Mita,

Though in this survey, money is the main criterion for leaving a job, surveys all over the world have shown that it is the behavior and attitude of the immediate boss that is cited as reason number one for leaving a job. This once again calls for developing leadership competencies. If the boss is not a true leader in a real sense, this is what happens! In fact, I left a very good job because I had such a nasty, highly autocratic, and jealous boss! Such arrogant and adamant bosses try to impose their ideas on others and do not tolerate their subordinates' success. However, I have no regrets, as God has been inordinately kind to me and I was able to get a good job to my complete satisfaction.

It is against this background that leadership assumes greater importance, and trainers have to ensure that participants turn out to be good leaders both at home and the workplace after they attend your inspiring training. I have every hope that Citehrians will rise to the occasion and ensure that an employee leaving a job because of an immediate boss becomes a thing of the past. I wish you all success in all your leadership training.

Hi everyone,

Here we are, starting the day with an interesting poll. Thank you for your sharings.

See the case below, which is happening in one of my friend's organizations, leading him to decide to resign:

It is a medium organization with a simple org structure. For example, his manager (HR & Admin) is not ethical, and he is motivating employees to engage in wrongful activities (corruption). Unfortunately, he can't report these issues to higher levels because they hold a favorable opinion of the respective manager. One interesting aspect is that the manager is being supported by someone from the higher levels.

One day, my friend confided in me, and with certain reasons, I also started engaging in the same corrupt practices. However, after two months, he expressed his regret, saying, "Sorry, I can't continue with this job." He felt that these actions were causing him to lose his self-respect, and the unethical occurrences around him seemed unstoppable.

Now, share your opinion about this case.

Employee retention, in my opinion, is closely linked with issues right from the time of recruitment of an employee. Instead of finding reasons for why people look out for a change, we as employers must look out for implementing policies and programs towards retention of the employees. Nevertheless, the most common reasons include interpersonal relationships and the attitude of people.

"An employee doesn't leave an organization; he leaves his manager!" This proverb holds true here.

In my view, disagreement with the immediate superior is one of the major reasons to look for another job. Inappropriate salary, unsatisfactory job profile, negligible work acknowledgment, no growth path, and monotonous job design could also be other reasons for the same.

I would like to thank you for raising a good question on this floor. I have been working on a contractual basis for 2.6 years in a Gurgaon-based company. However, I am still not on their payroll and do not receive other facilities/benefits. Sometimes, I am disappointed with all these problems. Some companies show partiality towards contractual employees and do not provide them with other benefits.

Your point of view is right.

I'm writing from Africa, and what I can say is that we have the same problem anywhere in the world. Staff need to be encouraged in their everyday efforts, and when working well, staff need to be promoted. It's very rare today that companies use people as just temporary tools to fill their needs, and that is all.

So, lack of motivation and promotion is the number one reason for employees quitting their jobs.

Dear all,

The reasons mentioned above somehow contribute to the change in attrition rates in different organizations, but the main reason for employees quitting their job is inefficient management. If the management is not up to the standard that employees are looking for, then automatically, the employees are going to leave the organization. Therefore, the management should implement flexible policies so that they will suit a larger number of employees by retaining their interest in their work. Timely surveys and research works should be conducted to meet the changing needs of employees. For example, the management must focus on individual employees to understand what they are exactly looking for in the organization (promotions, better salary, growth, etc.) as well as outside the organization (future career advancements, higher studies, family security, etc).

This survey by itself will not tell much if we are trying to find a solution, unless we collect some demographic data. The reason for leaving a company can vary for the same person depending upon the stage of his/her career, among other things. Every employee wants his/her salary with job satisfaction, and that comes if you are in a low salary position with job satisfaction, or a lower salary with more responsibilities and a supportive boss where your growth is visible. Otherwise, a high salary with a critical job or a high salary with better prospective job.

I will also go with "D" & after that "C".

I was getting 10K in my previous organization. I didn't get an increment even after a commitment by the company. After me, a new person joined having only 1 year of extra experience, and the company is paying him 28K.

I do not agree with you as the boss does not matter. It is only important sometimes, like if the boss is behaving in the wrong manner, using wrong words, or giving unnecessary pressure. However, most of the time, the boss does not have any interaction with employees.

Most importantly, if you want to retain employees in the organization, you need to pay them a good salary. Nowadays, money is the motivating factor, and the more you pay, the more willing employees will be to work as you want. Job satisfaction is also essential, but it is the second most important factor. If we address these two points better in our organization, employees will not leave.

I would like to go with A & D. An employee who is really putting all his efforts gets a very low package, while on the other hand, an employee who shows that he is really working very hard gets less workload, stress, and a huge package.
