Hi Anuradha,

You will have to ensure that your company offers at least the basic minimum leaves as defined by your state Shops and Establishment Act or the Factories Act, as applicable. Secondly, you can look at what other organizations/companies in the region offer and then make a decision.

If you can be specific regarding whether your organization is covered under the Shops & Establishment Act or the Factories Act, the location, etc., there would be quite a few of us who would be more than happy to help you.

Since you have mentioned it is a media company, I presume that there would be female employees (if not now, they may be recruited in the future). They are eligible for maternity benefits under the Maternity Benefit Act, which does not find a place in any of the replies. The entire gamut of leave-related laws and case laws, how to frame a leave policy including action on unauthorized absence and late attendance cannot be covered by a few suggestions alone.
