Dear Friends,
Today, I heard a spiritual speech in which the preacher emphasized the importance of having a destination for a journey and a goal for life.
I have been contemplating this concept and would like to share my thoughts with you, seeking your perspectives as well. Sometimes, sharing ideas can be beneficial for all members.
When embarking on a journey, it is essential to set a clear destination, determine when and how to reach it, and establish a timeframe for arrival. Likewise, in life, it is crucial to have a goal to strive for within our lifetime. Without a goal, we may drift aimlessly, reacting to circumstances, potentially leading to either great leadership or negative outcomes.
Should we discuss and share our life goals and aspirations, aiming to fulfill our destinies in life together? Let's explore how our shared goals can guide us toward our desired destinies.

Dear Bhaskar,
My special appreciation to you for starting an excellent thread under a banner 'Goals in our Life'. You have shared a great message, and it is the need of the hour for many of us. A goal-less life is like a coma life. Thanks for kindling our thoughts. A great attempt.
Best wishes,

Thank you for your comments, Mr. AVS. But my intention in writing this thread is to know how many of us have a goal to lead our lives. No one has responded. For those who haven't, they may quote the words from the Tamil Writer Mr. Balakumaran's book, "Irumbu Kudhiraigal" (which means "Steel Horses"). If you ask a horse what its goal is, it will laugh at you and tell you that those who have goals never truly attain them. Hence, horses never have such goals or destinies. This is the Veda lesson No. 2 that the horses taught me. (If there are any mistakes, please forgive me as I read the book in 1987 and have forgotten most of it.)
Shall I expect you to share your goal in life, sir?

Dear Friend,
The BIG MNC offers you a job on a contract basis for 6 months, and if they assess your performance as above average level, then they will confirm and make you permanent (as I understood from your wordings). On the other hand, the middle-level company is initially offering you a permanent job, and their pay is also fine. Instead of focusing solely on the brand name, please select the better package. Since you appear to be young and have a long tenure to gain work experience, you can acquire good knowledge in the subject as well as earn money. If this offer were for me, I would choose the compensation package with a permanent job. Please consult your parents, weigh the pros and cons, make your decision, and take a positive step.
Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.

Hi Sir,
Thank you so much for your guidance. The articles I came across from the website helped me understand that the Project Management Office is related to the management side, where we directly interact with the development team, project managers, and take care of the complete status of the project. On the other hand, in Software Support, we can learn a lot of skills related to technical aspects. However, my confusion lies in the fact that even if we delve into technical roles, at some point, we may have to transition into a management role.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you, Dharani, for your valuable comments. You have mentioned that your goal is as a daughter and not your life's goal. Not hurting is your policy, but it is not the goal. Please set a goal and dream about one fine day achieving it. As told by our beloved former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, your dream will transform into reality. If you always dream, you will surely make progress towards your dream, accomplish it, and make your goal successful.
Wishing you all the best, Dharani. God bless you.

Well, first, I need to apologize for coming late to the discussion. Next, I need to thank you for sharing your wonderful thoughts on human beings' goals. Here, I can say that there are some human beings who pursue their goals diligently, even if they face setbacks along the way. On the other hand, some individuals waste time merely contemplating their ambitions without taking concrete actions. Then, there are those who disregard their goals entirely and live aimlessly.
In my view, our life goals should be straightforward:
1. We should set achievable goals that require dedicated effort.
2. We should focus on the present and strategize how to reach our goals in a timely manner.
3. We should not waste time fantasizing about the enjoyment awaiting us once we achieve our life's true goal. 😊

Dear Bhaskar,
First of all, I apologize for the late response. It was a wonderful thought about GOAL. My lifetime ambition is to become an EHS Manager/EHS Specialist. I promise you that I will achieve this goal before 2018, which means before the age of 28.

Thank you, Bharathi and Raghu, for your valuable comments and replies to this thread. For both of you, I would like to share something about goals. Our set goals must always be SMART, which means:
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Realistic
T - Time-Bound
You can refer to [Goal Setting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goal_setting) to learn more about goal setting.
God bless you, dear, and wish you all the best.

Yeah, Mr. Jaynarayan Modi, we must write down all the goals. If you keep the written goals in front of your eyesight at all times in the office as well as at home, surely you will make moves to achieve your goal, and surely, one fine day you will achieve your goal. All the best. God bless you.

Dear Mr.Bhaskar
First am appreciating you to started this valuable post. I have no belief in setting goals. Sometime if we set a goal if we have not achieved it we feel guilty isn't it????? Goals keep you focused on something in the future, instead of being present and enjoying what you’re doing right now. Goals keep you fixed on one path, which might not be the best path in a week or a month or a year. They keep you fixated on one thing, rather than being open to new opportunities, being flexible as the landscape changes, being free to pursue something you’re newly passionate about rather than sticking to something you’re tired of. Seriously while i was studying my college i have several goal..Even after completion of Higher secondary grade i was having some determination to take this course, Do lots of stuffs using that but it won't exist for few months even few days because i don't get any opportunity or my condition won't support it to do so. But it doesn't meant that i have not put any effort. Some time we work towards our prepared goal we cannot reach it. Whatever happens... life has to go on!!
Anyhow thanks for sharing wonderful post with us.

Dear Varsha,
Thank you for your comments and views on goal setting. If you do not have any goals in life, there will not be any interest in life. You can set a goal in any subject or target and then try to make a move towards it. Obviously, you can and will attain your goal. Upon reaching your goal, you must set another goal within the next timeframe.
All the best, and God bless you, Varsha.

Dear Mr.Bhaskar
Thanks for your reply in requesting me to write my goal(s) in life.
I have gone through the views of our members and I appreciate all the messages shared by them.
I am delighted to share my views on ‘Goals of Life’.
Before I write about the main subject, I wish to share few basic fundamentals that decide the success or failure in our life.
ABCD of Life:
The easy acronym indicates
Attitude
Belief
Character and
Discipline
The D Discipline carries the other ABCs with it in the journey of life and is very vital.
The magical word ‘Discipline’ is a behavior we follow in our life.
Without disciplining both your thoughts and actions, you are unlikely to achieve success, happiness or personal or career or social achievements.
Discipline is a magical word that reminds our duties in life.
The goal of discipline is to develop a worthy character in a person.
Coming to our main point about ‘Goals in Life’
Goals are a means to an end, not the ultimate purpose of our lives.
Goals are tools to concentrate our focus and move us forward.
The only reason we really pursue goals is to remind ourselves to move in right direction.
Achieving goals by themselves will never make us happy in the long term.
Facing the obstacles and what you become after achieving your goals, can alone give you the long-lasting sense of fulfillment.
I partially agree with Varsha, who has nicely expressed her views.
But I never say ‘Goals in life’ is least important.
Goals are is very important as they are the tools used to achieve meaningful results.
Even a Zero, with a goal can become a Hero.
More than a goal, it is the determination of achieving the desired goal is important.
Enough have been told about ‘goals’ in Bhagavad-Gita, and Thirukural.
But we have re-invented the word ‘Goal Setting’ from the West and started re-learning.
On your specific request, I wish to share about goals in my life.
I have found success in my life so far by adhering to the ABCD principles.
Attitude has made me to see the obstacles as opportunities.
Belief has given me confidence.
Character has evolved me as a human being.
Discipline has made me to segregate my goals as Personal, Career, Social and Spiritual.
With this the process, the habit of ‘goal setting’ happens by default in me.
Some of my successes I have achieved by ‘Goal Setting’ in the past are:
Love myself and my family.
Have a successful business.
Grow and learn new things.
Have a contented life.
Have good friends.
Assist people without expecting anything in return.
To help others improve their lives.
My goals for the future will be:
Enjoy the ‘solitude’ as we are all ‘born alone’ and will ‘die’ alone’ in this world.
Attain self-actualization.
Make the ‘hyphen’ between my ‘birth and death years’ more meaningful and complete..
These are my personal opinions which are not exhaustive.
I will be happy to see more open-minded opinions from members and keep this thread alive for a long time.
Thank you again Bhaskar for your fine initiative.
Regards
AVS

Hi RA2011,
My suggestion to you is to go for technical skills first. Based on my understanding, once you have a strong technical foundation, you can easily transition into the management field. Your next target could be PMO. However, once you are deeply involved in management and project handling, and have reduced your technical involvement, it will be challenging to return to a technical role.
The choice is ultimately yours. Remember, opportunities will arise; just prepare yourself accordingly. You will lose nothing.

Hi Mr. Bhaskar,
This thread is quite thoughtful. My goals in life are always short term; once I achieve a goal or am almost done with it, I usually plan the next destination.
Regarding my career, I aim to learn extensively in the HR field and gain practical experiences to guide others effectively and provide valuable suggestions.
In my experience, I believe that goals should be set beyond your immediate reach so that you will end up doing something you love. This certainly requires a great deal of patience, confidence, and passion.
I also suggest dreaming big and exploring what may seem out of reach, as this can lead to discovering new paths toward your ultimate goals.
I hope I have effectively expressed my views. Wishing you all the best for engaging in such a fruitful discussion on this topic.
