Hi seniors, I am presently working in a logistics company where no HR policies have been amended. As an HR manager, I want to take the initiative. I have spoken with my employees, and many of them have problems such as the absence of a leave policy, no holiday calendar, no insurance benefits, and no employee engagement activities. Even the directors are not inclined to listen to anyone in a position where someone wants to implement changes in their existing environment. In fact, there is a 6-day working week here, and most of the employees are 50 or 60+. They don't have much to do in their personal lives, but the younger employees are stretching with just one day off. That's why employees, as well as management, are not happy with the environment.

Proposed Changes to Improve Employee Satisfaction

Please help me with how I can effectively present all these points to the management. Firstly, I want to implement either Saturday as a half day or have the 2nd and 4th Saturdays off, as all employees are already stretching one hour extra daily.

Please, seniors, help me with this.

Dear Manisha,

Firstly, I think you should calculate the total working hours in a week and compare them with the total output per week. Work should not be affected; even if it is, it should not be to a great extent.

In your post, you have mentioned that management is least interested in making changes. You will have to present strong points if you really want the 2nd and 4th Saturday as a holiday or half-day.

Apart from that, you will also need to consider the probation period, leave policy, travel policy, reimbursement policy, etc., while formulating policies. Also, you should tailor the policies according to your company's requirements.

Kindly wait for senior members to comment on this.

Hi Sonali, thanks for your reply. I would like to add something. In this organization, as I have already mentioned, only 25% of young blood are employed, and the rest of the people are working like machines. It is also impacting our attrition rate, as young employees are leaving, but the rest are still the same. Even the company has given me this responsibility, and they also want to restructure the company. They have hired 2 C.A.s as advisors, but they hardly listen to anyone.
