Dear borntosin,
It seems the company you are working for is not an OSHAS certified company. If you had OSHAS, it is very important to track near-miss accidents as this will enlighten you on the fallacy which is inbuilt in the job procedure. Necessary corrections can be made so that no reportable accidents occur in the company and man-days lost due to accidents are saved.
Thank you.

Dear borntosin,
What's the problem with you? If your company does not follow the safety rules and regulations, you should implement the same. Instead of this, kindly avoid making these kinds of unwanted comments.
According to safety rules, near misses are to be recorded and acted upon accordingly. This is followed strictly in professional companies that truly prioritize safety. I come from that culture, and I cannot tolerate your idiotic comments. If you are in India, I do accept that these may be considered useless, as Indian companies do not prioritize spending on safety due to their financial situation and are more focused on earning profits.
A question for you - why have you not taken any steps to change this situation? If you are a safety professional, what is your role in changing this scenario? Make efforts to improve the safety culture. Please do not comment like this and demotivate real safety professionals. We know how much effort we put in to enhance safety culture as we are always under pressure.
Dear Sudipta,
It's not necessary for a company to have OHSAS. It is based on the mentality of the people and how they want to work. If they choose to work in a proper systematic manner, then everyone will understand what needs to be done in a safe manner. It's more about common sense and the working culture.
In Gulf countries, the US, Singapore, etc., safety is a must. Are all industries in these countries OHSAS certified? It's part of their culture, which may also be influenced by their strict rules and regulations.
Dear Sukhdeep,
The purpose of recording near-miss reports is to act on what has happened and prevent the unsafe conditions/acts, as these near misses may lead to serious accidents. For examples, please provide me with your email ID, and I will email you in detail later.
Thanks and regards.

Dear friends,
I am really enjoying the postings. I understand that many are finding simple solutions for their day-to-day problems at work through this. However, I am sure there may not be any cure for sheer ignorance and blatant expression of it here. If one cannot understand what a near miss is and its importance in accident/loss prevention, the safety officer does not have a magic mirror to see through all near misses and report for remedy. Anyone who comes across a near miss can report it to authorities and help prevent recurrence with serious consequences. We cannot leave them as such. If available and interested, proper counseling may help.

Dear Sukhdeep,
The purpose of a near-miss report form is to:
1) Obtain information regarding unsafe activities to take future-oriented actions.
2) Reduce the possibilities of unsafe activities occurring.
3) Increase awareness among individuals about unsafe activities.
