I quit a leading IT company on the 7th of March and joined another of the same kind, but I really miss my friends and the kind of friendly atmosphere I had in my previous company. I would like to rejoin my ex-company. They have advertised multiple openings that match my skill set. Can I apply for it? Or what is the timeline for when an employee who quits an organization can rejoin? Would anyone answer me, please?

No time limit to rejoin. If the particular company has any set of rules & regulations on this matter, it will be as per those rules.

  • Any day you can join, subject to the relieving from the existing company where you are working and subject to the rules and regulations of your previous company with regard to the departing employees.

It is not a matter of you joining the same company again, but your reason is only about your friends in the ex-company. According to my knowledge, please reconsider this because your ex-management might have a slightly bad impression and certain issues that your heart will not accept. For example, before you join, ask them (management) whether you will be considered at the same level or if you will be junior to your friends. Be practical in your future; don't play with your future (time).

Be confident that you can create the same atmosphere in your present company. Nothing is impossible.

Rejoining a Previous Employer: Considerations and Timelines

No time limit is prescribed in law. If a resignation letter is sent and the employer accepts it, that marks the end of employment. If no decision is made, they could consider your continuity in service. If you "re-join," you'll lose the continuity of service.

Having the same friends can be possible even outside of employment. Think twice before proceeding. Will the erstwhile employer accept you?

You are free to apply to your previous company. It is up to your previous employer whether to consider your candidature or not. Some employers are allergic to ex-employees. Some employers have a formal policy regarding entertaining ex-employees' candidature, mentioning whom to consider and whom not to consider, and after what time gap. Irrespective of the policy, any employer has the right to accept or reject any candidate.
