Hi Friends,
I am playing the HR Generalist role in my company, i.e., MONDIAL Consultants Pvt Ltd, Mumbai.
I have a new task today and I need your help. The majority of our employees in the company work on the client side. Therefore, I have been asked to come up with ideas for employee motivation. I am looking for something that we can do online to maintain the bond between the employees and the management. For example, 2-5 minute online multiplayer games, an e-magazine containing stories of great achievers for moral inspiration, new discussions similar to those on citehr, etc. However, my boss is looking for more unique ideas.
Can the experienced seniors from Citehr suggest something different and good? I have some ideas already, but I am not completely satisfied.
Please suggest...
Thanks & Regards,
Taniya

Hi Taniya,
Basically, it depends on what budget you have for ER activities. There are lots of things you can do, but the basic constraint is budget. If you can share this, then I would probably be able to give you some better and fruitful ideas.

Hi Taniya,
E-Select Readings - fortnightly or monthly - could be good! Give a format to your boss. He may appreciate it.
Title slide, followed by a message from your head. One slide with some nice thoughts, two to four slides could be edited articles of relevance, and another slide could feature Cartoons. The last slide could be seeking suggestions and contributions from the readers. When we seek wisdom, thoughts, or advice, it spreads a nice feeling and a feeling of inclusion, which is one of the most motivating factors perhaps. Trust me, out of my own experience, I can tell this would be very useful. Each fortnight can have a different theme.
Announcing birthdays and sending wishes through the intranet could be good as one finds colleagues wishing throughout the day.
You can create a Book Lover's forum - employees can share about the books they read.
Start a discussion where they talk about the qualities they admire in others because it gives one a chance to look at oneself too.
One will try to share more as we go along.

Hey Taniya,
There are two types of motivation that you can use: positive motivation and negative motivation. It's a gamble to use negative motivation, but it can be very effective. Try Googling for motivational games. You will find a lot of games. One thing that works is a team picnic with employees and family. Budget is a constraint, but see how you can manage. Reply if you think this was useful.

Hey friends,
Thank you all for your suggestions, especially Mr. Sood, your ideas were really helpful. Mr. Kalita, I don't have any budget as these games will not be done keeping any budget in mind. The basic concept behind this idea is to motivate the employees as they are under huge work pressure at our client site, and it's just for a change of mindset. Hence, I have taken this initiative.
I have come up with some points like celebrating birthdays, watching movies once in a while, 2-5 minutes online games (I need to gather games), Communication Forum, etc. But my boss wants continuity in all of this. In the sense, every month I should come up with some new innovative ideas for Employee Relations.
Hence, please suggest what else I can do.
Thank you,
Taniya.
