I am in Human Resources now and would like to know what the take is on Induction manuals. Why are they necessary when an induction should simply suffice. I would any help on this.

Dear Colleagues,
To my mind, the need for an Induction Manual would be basically for documentation purposes and easy referral to issues related to such.
One thing we need to know is that the content of inductions would certainly vary from industry to industry and, of course, company to company—hence the need to streamline boundaries to avoid derailment.
Another issue would be that for new intakes to properly grasp the workings of their workplace, they can easily refer to this document instead of always coming back to HR for all interpretations of circumstances and related matters.
Things that would be contained in such a document may include but are not limited to the following:
- Type of business/es the company is involved in
- Branch/es/subsidiary/ies
- Board membership
- Managerial hierarchy/organogram
- Number of departments/names
- Reporting channel/s
- Resumption/break/closing time
- General information about the company: addresses, telephone numbers, etc.
It should be strongly noted here that this kind of document, an Induction Manual, is certainly different from an Employee Policy Manual.
Thanks

Hi,
An induction manual is a good idea for both the new employee and the HR personnel. In big organizations, it can be quite challenging to reach out to HR with all your queries about the organization's operations and to have a basic understanding of who to contact for what, which is crucial during the first few days of your employment.
The manual should be a practical guide that addresses most of the common questions that a new employee may have.
Thanks,
Sonia

Thank you very much. I truly appreciate the information provided. Please forgive my delay in expressing this gratitude. I was unfamiliar with navigating the site, so I was unsure where to find responses to my requests. Citehr, could you kindly provide information on that in a casual manner? I had been focusing on my corner and mistakenly believed that replies there were in response to my requests. It wasn't until yesterday that I realized this was not the case when I replied to someone else's topic.
Thanks once again, Ajayi and Sonia.

Hi Oruye,
Not a casual reply... this seems to be a serious issue. Usually the best way to make sure that you know when you receive a reply is by keeping the "Notify me when a reply is posted" checked. Unless your email address is bouncing CiteHR emails, you will know when you receive a reply.
I am planning on building a small page describing the navigation and use of the site's features, but it will take some time as I am currently drowning with work related to a job fair. I will get it up soon, though.
A big hurray for all you members who have made this site a useful resource for all of us. If anyone has any suggestions regarding how to improve the site or if you find something difficult to use, please do send me an email.
Best regards,

Dear CiteHR Admin,
I would like to mention that the same was the case with me. But in the past 3 months, through trial and error, I've learned a lot about the site. I really appreciate this site and keep telling many friends in our profession about it. This site is like an encyclopedia of HR policies, processes, and guidance. It is like a mentor, with answers for any and every question. It is an amazing site, and I truly appreciate all those who have made this site and are contributing to it.
However, building a small page describing the navigation and use of the site's features would help a lot.
Ciao,
Vinisha

It would really be great if someone could actually come out with how to navigate the site.
