Dear Team,

I have been working at a firm for the past 4 years, and the key responsibilities assigned to me are entirely different from my designation. I have requested an offer letter with a designation that aligns with my responsibilities, but I have yet to receive it for the past 2 months.

Please advise me on this matter.

Thank you.

These things are not a big issue, but you should communicate your grievance to your immediate boss. If he fails to address it, you can consider looking for alternate employment where your designation and responsibilities align more closely.

Thank you!

You have not started by specifying the designation, outlining the responsibilities, explaining the significance, and detailing the type of organization you are working for. Without this fundamental information, how can you expect members to take action? :)

Hi Rekha,

Have a clear talk - polite but firm - that you want the designation and responsibility to match with the concerned authorities if this is a matter of concern to you. Be prepared about what to expect in the discussion and stay calm. Find out beforehand, what has caused this gap and delay and then assess what to discuss.

Dear Member,

Each company has the right to have its own designations for any role and responsibility. There is no law that defines the responsibilities associated with a designation. There is no point in taking this up as an issue. However, if the same organization gives you a higher designation for the responsibilities you handle, you can raise the issue during annual performance reviews if your performance is also seen as outstanding.
