The only way out is a humble apology and quiet departure. Forgery is an offence under IPC and consequences can be there,if not handled very tactfully and apologetically.

Ask your friend to quit the job, search for another one, and this time don't lie to the company. If you are applying or joining any reputed firm, they have contacts for background verification. Nowadays, companies are sending direct emails to HRD for employee verification. I also use the direct contact method in my company for employee verification.
So, either build good relations with HR or tell the truth during the interview to secure the job.
