Dear Team,
One of my friends is facing a significant problem regarding attendance and salary-related issues with his new company's HR policy. He joined that company on the 27th of January 2015 and requested his salary for the month of February. However, he was informed that he would receive the salary in March 2015. He received his salary on the 1st of March for 25 days of work. The company explained that they calculate the attendance period from the 21st of the previous month to the 20th of the next month, resulting in him being paid for only 25 days, despite working from the 27th of January to the 31st of March, totaling one full month and 5 days.
In my own experience, I have worked for 2 or 3 companies where I joined in the middle of the month, such as the 5th or 14th, and received a full month's salary in the following month. As far as I know, they calculate this on an advance accrual basis.
Please provide clarification on the standard practices regarding this issue and confirm if this procedure is legally valid. Your advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Dear Abhijit,
If the attendance cycle is as you have mentioned, there is nothing wrong in the salary calculation except for the fact that your friend has been given one day of extra salary.
Friend's joining - 27/1/2015
He has not worked on 21/01, 22/01, 23/01, 24/01, 25/01, and 26/01 (According to the company's cycle). Therefore, he should be given a salary for 24 days only because he has not worked for 6 days. Perhaps the HR calculated 25 days because January has 31 days, but that is incorrect practice.
Since the next attendance cycle will start from 21st Feb to 20th March, I don't see your friend losing anything on the salary front.

Hello, good morning. Actually, I have the same question to ask. In our company, the salary cycle is from the 21st to the 20th. However, we have now introduced new HR software, and according to that software, the salary cycle is from the 1st to the 31st of every month. How can we align the salary for the month?

Dear team,
If the attendance cycle is 21 to 20 days, and we process the February salary, then we calculate 28 days' salary based on 31 days' attendance data. In March, we have 28 days' attendance data, and we calculate the salary based on 31 days. I am confused; please provide me with clarification on this issue.
Thank you.
