Hi, I am currently working as a Training & Development manager for a major telecom brand in India for one of its circles. I feel that an MBA in HR will help me enhance my career prospects, as I aim to continue pursuing a career in T&D, with training being my forte and having around 5 years of experience in this field.
Please help me understand the opportunities that may arise with an international MBA degree in my current line of work. I want to discuss and gain insight into whether I truly need an MBA in HR and, if so, how it will further enhance my current job. I am not looking to make a decision based solely on intuition but rather on solid facts.
Friends, please provide some insight.

Hi Rajesh,
As you are already in the T&D arena and continuing to pursue a career in the same field, an MBA would add to your qualifications. However, I presume you are looking for a customized course focusing solely on HR. Why don't you consider a PGDHRM or similar courses such as MHRM, MA(PM&IR), or MSc(Applied Psychology)? An MBA would be beneficial if you wish to broaden your scope of activities, perhaps by incorporating various other services.

Sree

Hi Rajesh,
I would like to have some advice from you. I am interested in Training and Development (T&D). Presently, I am in a Generalist HR role, just started my career. Could you advise me on how I can get into the field of T&D?
Regards, Pal.

Hi Sree,
Nice to see your response; quite a qualitative one. I have received letters of acceptance from good universities in the UK like Strathclyde and Leeds Met for their 1-year Executive MBA program. Additionally, I have received one from Robert Gordon University for their MSc in Management program, which has a clear focus on any elective one might choose, such as HR or Marketing.
I need some insights on the same, as a generalized view leads me to understand that one stands a better chance and has broader options post an MBA, whereas an MSc is beneficial if one has decided on the focus area.
Please share your thoughts on the above. Have a great weekend ahead!
