Hi,

I have not received any training for a year, even though it is mandatory to have a minimum of 7 days of training in a year at my company. I have already provided feedback to our HR department, but my reviewing officer is the main culprit. What should I do?

It is advisable to convince your reviewing officer about the need for training. If the HR can nominate you for training and can instruct your reviewing officer, try this method, but there may be a risk that your reviewing officer may not take it kindly. So be tactful. These are sensitive areas at the workplace.

Thanks for your suggestion:) This is a wonderful site where we get answers to our those queries which can never be solved by our friends and family. :)

As you have not given enough information about your organization and its financial position, it is difficult to make comments. However, I would like to raise a few questions, as Saikumar has given a good answer.

Do you have an appraisal system in which either you or your reviewer has identified areas for development that could benefit from training to improve the organization's effectiveness? Is it just you who has not had the mandatory training? Normally, when a company is in the phase of saving money, it's the training of staff that gets hit.

Hi,

Yes, we have an appraisal system in which either you or your reviewer has identified areas for development that could benefit from training to improve the organization's effectiveness. Still, I have not received training. I have been working here for the past 8 years, and I have not undergone any training on my own. There is no cost-cutting going on either.

Dear Rupali, I am rather surprised that you have cut and pasted my question in your response, including the typo. If areas for training have been identified, can you undertake training on your own? Find out where you can get training on the areas and then approach the company for time off/reimbursement of the cost (If not in full, at least by 50%).

Rupali,

Don't fret about administrative policy minutiae. If your reviewing manager doesn't care, neither should you. Just record the fact properly that you reminded him or her several times. Always send the reminder in an email. Never verbally. If still nothing happens, thank the heavens because you got some time for yourself and spend that time doing something more productive. What's the point in attending training just to pass a stipulation? Instead, read a good book or do whatever basically, anything that is in alignment with your goals. Ask yourself what you want and then do the things that will get you what you want.

Thank you, everybody. I just participated in a Hindi contest and because I won, this guy is not even conducting the prize distribution ceremony. Tell me, what kind of a frustration he is? He went to Tirupati to pray so that his transfer to Gurgaon gets stopped.

Dear Rupali,

We have the choice: react or respond. It's not what he does that affects us. It's how we take it. Which is more satisfying: the fact that you won the contest or he gives the prize?
