Dear Seniors,

I am working in a food company which is out of ESI coverage area. Please guide me on what the responsibilities of the employer are as per rules and on humanitarian grounds when his employee meets with an accident in the factory or falls ill.

Please suggest.

Regards,
Puneet

Dear Puneet,

The Workmen's Compensation Act is applicable if the ESI does not provide coverage. According to this Act, if personal injury is caused to a workman by an accident arising out of and in the course of his employment, his employer shall be liable to pay compensation.

Dear Friends,

You can also cover your employees under a Group Personal Accident Policy either inside the factory or with any national insurance companies to receive leave wages, death insurance coverage, and partial payment of medical bills.
