Hello Everyone,

This is my first post with cite HR, so please do excuse me if I make any mistakes here. I actually wanted to seek help in shaping my career in HR with the right qualifications. To give you a brief idea, I am 24 years old, just cleared my SYBcom through Distance learning from Mumbai University. Regarding my experience, I have a total of 6 years of work experience, out of which 2 years were in US recruitment with Accenture and 2 years in IT recruitment with another Tier 1 company.

I now understand the value of not having a full-time degree but do not wish to be thrown out of the race as well. I just want to know what will be the best thing that I can do after my graduation (due this year) to keep me in the race. Should I go for a regular Part-Time MBA in HR or should I pursue a Diploma in Labor Laws or an MA in Psychology? I have also heard of HR certifications like PHR, SPHR, and GPHR.

It would be a great help if anyone can assist me with this.

Regards,

Sujith Thalekkara.

Dear Sujith,

This is my advice: don't leave your job to study. Just try to study by distance. One of my friends did his UG & PG by distance only, and now he is settled in a great IT company in the HR department. Don't worry about continuing your education by distance because you have experience in the HR domain. India's premier institution for HR, the National Institute of Personnel Management, offers a PG Diploma in Personnel Management. Just pursue the course by distance.

I have been working for 4 years in AS HR GERNLIST. I am a post-graduate in English to Hindi translation but do not have any education in HR such as an MBA. Should I pursue further studies for a better job, or can I secure a job in an MNC based on my experience? Please advise.

Hi Sujith, Try to complete your education by distance or else look for some universities that are seeking experienced candidates and helping them to advance their education. Please do not stop working for studies. Being in HR, you can still manage your schedule. All the best!
