I am supposed to do the performance appraisal of employees. I have the format of the job profile form, but I am puzzled about how to proceed as we don't have any proper format for performance appraisal. Please help me out. What are the steps for this? How do we give weightage to different points? HR people, please tell me how you do Performance Appraisal?

Hi Rashmi,

You have to measure the performance of an employee on different parameters like job knowledge, leadership, decision-making, administrative skills, public relations, integrity, etc. Depending on the organization, you may assign priority/marks to different parameters.

Hello all,

I have gone through the PPT, and it was very informative.

This is regarding the present situation during the appraisal time as an employee. I hope you can answer me.

I have been working as a service engineer for the past 2 years. I was given a direct appointment based on my previous company experience of 3 years. However, after 6 months here, there has been no increment. During the last year, due to the recession, I received a late increment of only 10%, which is very low. Even though the company mentioned they would review after 6 months, now a year has passed, and it is appraisal time again.

In terms of performance, I have been a top performer and have excelled in critical situations during my time here. The company has sent me to Spain for training purposes twice, and I have also signed a 5-year agreement.

The main reason for writing to you is that a new employee who joined the company is being paid better than me, even though I have to train them.

Is it appropriate to ask the company to consider giving me a better increment compared to others, or should I wait until the appraisal and then discuss this matter?

I am looking forward to your valuable suggestions.
