Respected Seniors,

With due respect to your dedicated experience and achievements, I would be glad if you could share your knowledge about "HOW TO ENHANCE MATURITY LEVELS in EMPLOYEES and STUDENTS". As I am working on a module that could help "STUDENTS and EMPLOYEES to enhance their MATURITY LEVELS".

The only reason why I am working on this module is "I LOVE BRINGING POSITIVE CHANGES & INCULCATING GOOD HABITS IN INDIVIDUALS", as it has been a big challenge for me, and I am really enjoying doing the same.

MATURITY is a MANDATORY FACTOR for one to progress and achieve SUCCESS in LIFE (PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL). It's not included in our PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL SYSTEM. If this could have been included as one of the MEASURING CRITERIA, I am sure we could have succeeded in solving major issues at the workplace associated with EMPLOYEES @ ALL LEVELS, including TOP MANAGEMENT.

I am sure MATURITY is deeply associated with CREATIVITY. I don't know whether my perception or maturity level is low or... as I want to comment that "Even MATURITY is lacking in many PROFESSIONALS".

Kindly compare the EFFECT OF HIGH MATURITY LEVELS in PERSONAL and PROFESSIONAL LIFE.

You are requested to post whatever information (questionnaires, e-books, articles) that could support this thread. This thread has nothing to do with ACADEMICS but is associated with HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY and INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE.

I am sure it is difficult to understand this thread, but for those who have understood, I am sure your maturity levels are far better than mine.

Kindly treat me as a FOOL (I don't know anything, even the meaning of MATURITY) and help me become WISE (someone who wants to learn and progress, AGGRESSIVELY). Of course, one may ask me, how can a fool post such an interesting thread (I am neither boasting nor boosting myself).

I thank ALMIGHTY for blessing me with everything.

NOTE: A student and juniors can respond to my thread, provided that you understand "what you are going to post" before you click "POST QUICK REPLY".

With profound regards

Dear Khadir,

How to bring maturity in the students:

Please remember, behind every arrow there is a bow and so is behind every student a good teacher.

To bring maturity among the students, you need to have mature faculty. In most Engineering Colleges and B-schools, faculties are quite inexperienced. In fact, when candidates don't get a job anywhere else, they end up becoming faculty. That is why we have a scenario where one who has never stepped into the HR department teaches HR, and one whose feet never touch the shop floor ends up teaching Operations Management!

One of the reasons for this pathetic state is poor leadership at educational institutions. Most educational institutes are run by politicians who operate their enterprises according to their whims and fancies. These institutes are used to rehabilitate their cohorts who assist them in canvassing during elections.

To change this, we need legislative changes. No faculty in any professional institute should be below 35 years of age or should have at least 10 years of working experience.

How to bring maturity in the employees:

Employees will become mature provided their business leader is mature. The business leaders in India are very short-sighted and lack a vision to grow beyond boundaries.

Most businesspersons start as proprietors. Later, they make their companies Private Limited and then Public Limited.

No matter how large a public limited company is, most companies have MDs' relatives on the board. If not individuals with a conjugal relationship, then people of their own caste occupy board positions. This corporate caste-ism is detrimental to the company's growth.

You have mentioned creativity or performance that brings maturity. However, you need leadership that respects innovation and creativity. With the population we have, it should become the fountainhead of innovation or creativity. Unfortunately, this does not occur because leadership is a stumbling block to innovation and creativity.

How to bring maturity in the society:

The maturity of students or employees depends on the maturity of society as a whole. Our education system does not foster scientific thinking. Lately, there is a trend to change the spelling of one's name to bestow good luck!

We had a soap opera "Kyo Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" that ran for a decade. In a country where a trashy soap opera like this runs for a decade, it reflects the maturity of society. Today, this soap opera is no longer there, but it has been replaced with a plethora of similar TV serials.

Final Comments:

Let us not worry about the maturity of society. True leadership lies in questioning oneself - what have I given to society. This is what Mahatma did, and today Anna Hazare is also doing.

Ok...

This appears to be a mega project. To handle the project, here are the requirements:

1. Your credibility - You are required to have at least a Ph.D. in any behavioral science, preferably in psychology.
2. The Institution - You should be attached to an institution from where you can operate your project.
3. Funds - Organizations like UGC, ICSSR, and the Government of India can sanction grants.
4. Surfing - Make a thorough internet search of "emotional maturity" and "social maturity."
5. Preparation of the project - prepare, submit, and pursue funding from donor organizations to release funds. However, if you have enough resources, then you can launch the project with your own funds.

Best of luck.

Dear Mr. Sethupathy,

Indeed, the information provided by you and Mr. Dinesh has been very useful for me. It will help me approach my assignment with renewed enthusiasm, as the knowledge gained is invaluable. Keep posting and good luck.

Dear Shaik Abdul Khadir,

As usual, Dinesh has given you a detailed answer on why Indian students lack "maturity" and how it can be overcome. Dr. Mahanta probably thinks that you have taken up a long project to study and, hence, has given you advice on how to proceed. It would be nice to know his views on the topic "Maturity of individuals, teams, and society at large."

I do not know much about it as it is a new topic for me. However, kindly see [Why is People Capability Maturity Model Necessary?](http://www.projectsmart.co.uk/why-is-people-capability-maturity-model-necessary.html) and [Whiteboards That Work!: Maturity Models](http://www.whiteboardsthatwork.com/maturity-models/) found on [Google](http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&xhr=t&q=how+to+measure+matu rity+level+of+workers&cp=40&pf=p&a mp;amp;sclient=psy&source=hp&aq=f& amp;amp;aqi=&aql=&oq=how+to+measur e+maturity+level+of+workers&pbx=1& fp=2e072eb84ae906c9).

Sorry for providing links; I did not have the time to read and digest it all.

Have a nice day.

Dear Mr. Simhan,

Thank you for supporting my assignment. I will acquire as much information as I can from the links you posted above.

Forgive me for posting my suggestions regarding your TIME MANAGEMENT, as you wrote that you didn't have time to read and digest it all.

1) We do have sufficient time to get our things done based on a PRIORITY LIST.

2) It is we who need to MANAGE OURSELVES within our TIME LIMITS, but no one can manage TIME because no one can control it.

3) Our PRODUCTIVITY depends upon the MAXIMUM/EFFECTIVE UTILIZATION OF TIME MADE AVAILABLE TO US BY THE ALMIGHTY.

It's just my opinion as I have trained students and employees in similar manners. The results were OUTSTANDING.

Dear Khadir,

You are preaching to the converted. I have run sessions on time management for both students and industrial workers. I know we all have only 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I am otherwise tied up.

Have a nice day.

Very good thread. Is it possible for a person in his mid-20s to participate in this thread? If so, then I really agree with Mr. Dinesh's response; it's very well said.

I can add by saying that maturity comes to an individual once he/she gets responsibilities (family, business, personal, work, etc). It doesn't mean that someone without responsibilities is not mature. I have seen many teens act maturely and understand limits (for example, a teen knowing the family income and budgeting accordingly).

I know this is just a limited answer or post, but I will gain more points and revert back again.

Thanks & Regards,

From Kuwait, Hawalli

Dear Mr. Sayeed,

I appreciate your suggestion about my thread. I am trying to explore as much information as I can that could be related to my assignment/module.

In my terminology, maturity can also be defined as "A logical thought process associated with human behavior," and there are factors associated with it, which we shall explore further. Anyone who feels he/she is matured can feel free to post their suggestions/views/opinions/comments/experience, as we are trying to understand how to enhance maturity levels in students and employees.

Dear all,

Please establish a hierarchy of priorities for combat within the corporate world, focusing on the following areas:

1. Lack of maturity, if applicable;
2. Arrogance, if applicable;
3. Lack of sound judgment, if applicable;
4. Deficiency in competency, if applicable; and
5. Any other issues (please specify).

Thank you.

Dear all,

As is my norm, when I do not have enough knowledge about a concept, I search the web (what a wonderful source provided we are careful about believing everything we read). As I had some free time, I searched the web and found a lot of sites that deal with the characteristics of MATURITY. Statements vary from a single statement to a list of 20 characteristics of a mature member of a guild.

I found the article by Richard (Dick) Innes at Characteristics of Maturity quite interesting.

Also, I found the 12th characteristic listed at Freeminds.org - Discover The Truth About Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower Society - Specific traits of a mature person | Freeminds.org - Discover The Truth About Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower Society <link updated to site home> (Search On Cite | Search On Google) that links creativity and maturity quite interesting.

"Mature people are creative and do things differently, not in rebellion but for the joy of being original and talented. They are clever, even in their ability to be amused instead of angered by life."

Both found at Google

Have a nice day.

Dear Simhan,

In my first response to the content on the previous page, I had advised the TS to do what you did. Here it is: "4. Surfing - Make a thorough internet search on 'emotional maturity' and 'social maturity'." He did not find it worth caring about.

Now, let us consider the priority first among the lack of maturity, arrogance, the least judiciousness, incompetency, and any other (to be specified). What is plaguing the corporate world the most?

From India, Delhi

Dear Mr. Simhan,

You are absolutely right as the MATURITY is directly proportional to INDIVIDUALS' CREATIVITY LEVELS. It is a fact that "Mature people are creative and do things differently, not in rebellion but for the joy of being original and talented. They are clever, even in their ability to be amused instead of angered by life."

This is what is missing in most students and employees. It is the WORKPLACE (professional life) that is the best area to demonstrate our MATURITY LEVEL. To my knowledge, corporates are playing a different ball game where a few are trying to enhance creativity (maturity levels); on the other hand, the rest are DESTROYING MATURITY...

Have a nice Sunday.

Dear Dr. Mahanta I sincerely welcome your comments/suggestions/views/opinion. With profound regards
From India, Chennai

Dear Dr. Mahanta,

Kindly don't give up as it's too early for you to abstain.

1) Often, members (students & employees) used to post their queries in an unstructured manner while expecting/demanding a solution.

2) There are members who had responded to various threads emotionally without evaluating the facts. I don't mean I am perfect, but I am still trying to become perfect by exploring myself and comparing with others.

After studying such threads, I decided to study MATURITY LEVELS in individuals. Henceforth, I started this thread with an AIM to understand how one can inculcate MATURITY LEVELS in STUDENTS and EMPLOYEES where I was expecting to receive responses from those senior/experienced (not to mention their names) members who frequently respond to individual queries. I know the potential of my thread because I am still studying the maturity levels of my organization's employees (at various levels) as I often meet them for delivering respective training programs.

Very few members had responded/shared their views, while others had abstained. There are threads crossed 15+ pages, but many had missed an opportunity to understand:

1) What is the ROLE of MATURITY in our life?

2) What are the factors associated with INDIVIDUAL MATURITY LEVELS?

3) How can one help to improve MATURITY LEVELS?

4) To what extent can MATURITY help us to OVERCOME HURDLES and achieve success in our PROFESSIONAL/PERSONAL LIFE?

5) Am I MATURE ENOUGH to handle various assignments that may not be of our concern associated with Professional & Personal life?

6) How much experience do I have to gain to become a MATURED PERSONALITY?

and a lot more...

1) Mr. Dinesh had submitted his suggestion stating the role of EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM, ORGANIZATIONAL STANDARDS & SOCIETY associated with MATURITY LEVEL.

2) Mr. Sethupathy correlated AGE, SOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS, FAMILY, RELIGION, etc., as factors associated with MATURITY LEVELS.

3) Through your post, I learned two types - SOCIAL MATURITY and EMOTIONAL MATURITY besides how ARROGANCE is destroying creativity (maturity).

4) Mr. Simhan described how CREATIVITY promoted MATURITY in individuals.

and more...

For students and other employees, this post could be utilized as a CASE STUDY - MATURITY - A PSYCHOLOGICAL SKILL, WHICH EVERY INDIVIDUAL OF CURRENT GENERATIONS NEED TO DEVELOP & DEMONSTRATE...

Whatever I had learned today, it's because you (selected) members had contributed proportionally demonstrating individuals' maturity levels as you had understood what I tried to convey through my thread.

I sincerely thank you all for helping to fill my knowledge base.

Kindly do correct me if I am wrong.

With profound regards,
