Hi all,

I would like to know from all those experienced HR practitioners how good a future in India would be for a mechanical engineer with 7 years of experience in engineering and 2.2 years of experience in HR, mostly in MNCs. I am about to complete my EMBA with a GPHR certification and a CCOT (psychometric assessment) certification. I intend to make a career in HR.

I would very much appreciate your valuable comments.

Dear Viswa,

I am also an HR professional and I am really curious to know the structure of your EMBA course. I would appreciate it if you could share some details regarding this particular course, such as course fees, duration, etc.

Regards,
Sameer

Dear Sameer,

I am pursuing my EMBA through S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research's overseas campus in Dubai. I have heard that they also have a similar facility in Mumbai. I am unsure about the fee structure there, which I believe you may need to inquire about. The program duration is two years, with courses organized in modules and including a dissertation. You may want to visit their website for more information.

All the best to you.

Hi Sameer,

Just to add to the above, what we have here are evening classes which are one week on and one week off. We have a cluster of exams in a couple of months covering all the subjects done during that period. Marks are allotted based on quizzes, participation, individual assignments, group work, and the final exams. It is interesting, and the value addition is good.

Hi,

Thank you for the prompt response. I shall definitely visit SP Jain's site to get more info. I have now realized that you are employed in Dubai as an HR professional. I am really keen to understand the HR opportunities available in Dubai for someone with 2 to 3 years of relevant HR experience. I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with more information on this.

Regards,
Sameer

Hi,

Opportunities in Dubai for HR professionals are quite abundant. You can find a job here, but to come, you would need a visa. What you can do is try to get in touch with the travel agents there and ask them to provide you with a tourist visa, mentioning that you want to visit Dubai. The visit visa is valid for two months and extendable by one month. Once on a visit, you can apply to the companies here. If you want to observe the scenario of HR placements, try logging into Monster Gulf or Naukri Gulf sites.

Hi Balaji,

I read your message to Sameer. I understand that you are pursuing an EMBA from SP Jain in Dubai. I am a chartered accountant currently working in Dubai. I am also considering enrolling in this course, but I am unsure if it will truly add value to my career. Your insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Mayank,

EMBA from S.P. Jain in Dubai is good from my perspective. I have gained quite a bit from it. However, having mentioned that, I would also like to add that S.P. Jain is fairly new in Dubai, meaning it started providing EMBA courses only 3-4 years ago. Therefore, we need to bear in mind that it will have its ups and downs in terms of schedules. Since most of the faculty fly down from Mumbai, Singapore, and a few external consultants, we may see some schedules being arranged and rearranged. Some batches have experienced issues with exam marks not being provided on time, which are essentially administrative issues. As for the learning and takeaways, I found it enriching. In fact, based on feedback from early batches, many modifications have been made to the curriculum. It is up to every student to make the most of the course, considering that all the courses are broken down into modules for a week, meaning 12-13 sessions of 1.5 hours each. The course content provided is substantial, and if you devote time to go through it amidst your work schedule, you can gain a lot during and after the classes with the professor. Balancing work, study, and personal life during the course is a significant challenge, and one must clearly make up one's mind about this. Some guest lectures have been very good and quite useful for the Middle East markets.

As an EMBA student, I felt that the onus was on me to apply the teachings at work, unlike a normal MBA or GMBA student.

Balaji

Hello Balaji,

I would like to know what the scope of EMBA is here in Dubai compared to the GMBA. This query is for a person who has work experience of 2-3 years as a sales engineer in mechanical parts/machinery in Dubai. I would like to know, after completing this course, what is the expected growth in income and career. Also, is the course too difficult for a working person to manage along with his work and family life? Are there any students who have joined this MBA with similar experience and then went on to get better job offers?

Could you also tell me what the fee structure is for the entire program and whether there are additional/hidden costs later on? Those students who faced problems with regards to exam marks, etc., were they able to deal with the administration directly? Does the administration listen to the problems faced by the students and solve them?

If you could kindly answer my queries, I would appreciate it a lot.

Thank you and regards,
Fouzia
