Dear Bhavna,

The payroll process is almost the same. I have experience with SAP-HR. Below are some notes I have regarding this. Indian payroll is known to be tougher than others :)

Here are the differences among Indian, U.K, and U.S payrolls:

Difference between the US and Indian payroll can be broadly categorized in two ways:

1. For Contract Employees
2. For Salaried Employees

For salaried employees, the norms are mostly the same. However, many employees are on a contract basis. Therefore, their classification is mainly based on two grounds. The contract employee fee is mainly based on an hourly basis for which they are billed. The vendor takes care of the contract employee's salary. This means the company sends a timesheet to the vendor, and the vendor then makes the payment to the employee.

Every year, like Indian tax rates, changes also take place in the U.K regarding tax slabs (which need to be reflected in PAYE - Pay As You Earn), civil and social laws, and tax laws. In fact, from October 2006, there have been many changes in various laws related to employees in the U.K. All this information needs to be populated in the respective types. Similarly, U.S. payroll has specific infotypes which are numerous due to its complex system.

This is a general idea about U.K payroll.

Oh God... three different issues in one case.

@bhavna_0885, not sure on what context do you ask this question. Presuming you are asking to check if you can join any Indian firm with your UK background in payroll, then the answer is that you "would need" exposure to Indian payroll. Our Indian payroll system is mostly a complicated and tedious process. However, if you join any firm having payroll software, you can pick things up rather quickly.

But still, I suggest you try learning the Indian Payroll and compensation structure and benefits through appropriate training at institutes in Mumbai.
