Dear Seniors,

I am a student of HR doing my summer internship at a steel concern that is essentially in the nascent project stage. My project involves formulating HR policies and procedures, which will include:

1) Recruitment and selection
2) Compensation and benefits broadbanding
3) Performance management systems

More aspects will be added over time. I need to develop an organizational structure that will be implemented in later stages. This structure should be comprehensive, covering all functionalities and departments. It will assist me in framing the compensation and benefits policy by making the grades and broadbands clearer. Additionally, it will help me in determining the types of vacancies that will arise in due course.

Please provide me with some direction.

Thank you,

Dear Mr. Gafoor,

I sympathize with you. However, what is the fun in studying at an educational institute like the "Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies" that does not provide any education on the methodology to be adopted in order to complete project assignments? When we were at university, we were given detailed knowledge on different research methodologies and how to apply them to complete projects during internships. Unfortunately, this seems to be lacking here.

If you are unable to complete these simple projects, it indicates a lack of basic knowledge of HR functions in the industry and a complete blank slate.

We are disappointed to receive such an email from a student at the Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies, which claims to provide quality education. In reality, their students are seeking assistance from external sources because the educational standards are not up to par.

Sir,

I believe you have the wrong impression about me and my institute in general. We are, in fact, being provided with the best guidance.

My query here was nothing more than an attempt to gather more ideas and a newer outlook. In addition to the excellent advice given by my peers, faculty, and reference to our curriculum.

You have been quick to judge and used strong words like "blank," indicating a sub-optimal education standard. However, it does not escape my notice that while you provided non-constructive criticism, you did not offer any advice or direction to assist me with the project.

I, too, am disappointed to receive such a reply from an industry senior.
