Dear members,
If I am not wrong there are many members who are willing to improve their communication skills. As the main motto of CiteHR is to share and grow then why don't we join hands together to make our communication skills more sharpen and better? With this aim I take an initiative to bring such people together in Delhi and NCR Region.
I seek your valuable suggestions on this idea. (pls don't forget to write your e-mail ID at the last of your suggestion)

Hi Devender,
Nice suggestion. As I have already recommended in another thread from a different region, we can initiate an activity to enhance our written communication skills. This is quite simple. By rotation, we can assign a topic (commercial) to write about, and those interested can write and post it in this thread. Others can evaluate and choose the best draft. The rest can identify areas for improvement and work on addressing those weaknesses in their subsequent drafts.
We can sustain these activities as long as there is interest from people. I believe that one has to dive in to learn swimming.
Let me know if you like this idea.

Thanks for your suggestions, guys. We have a few options to consider on the subject matter. For example, we can write notes, passages, or articles on HR/English-related topics to share our knowledge and improve our writing skills. By receiving feedback from other members after they have read these notes/articles, we can further enhance our skills. Additionally, we can arrange to meet at a suitable place at regular intervals to work on improving our communication skills by discussing a predetermined subject. These meetings can also help us enhance our presentation skills. What do you think? Which option do you prefer?

Hey Devender,
You are absolutely right, I completely agree with you. I am willing to improve my communication skills. We can write articles on HR, and we can meet once a month. You will decide the subject, and we will prepare the answer for that. Is that correct? Thanks, Suman

Hi
So guys I think we can start now. Let's get started by introducing ourselves. This introduction may be a long one. It may comprise the things about past, present and future (professionally).
Shall we meet in person on 15th of June (Sunday) at a suitable place? There we will give introduce ourselves orally and will tell our strong and weak points (in communication skills). We will also suggest how we can help each other by sharing our knowledge in HR and English. This (introduction) would be our first presentation in the group which would be followed by many in the coming days.
Pls start giving your introduction and also accord your confirmation to attend the meeting on 15th June, 2008.

Dear Members
It is feeling nice to see that some veterans are associating themselves with this group and volunteering their services.
I am planning to hold a meeting on 15th July, 2008 (Sunday) at 11 AM at Arts Faculty, North Delhi University Campus. It is a famous place and well connected with Delhi Metro (Visvidhalya Station) and busses. Hence, the members who are willing to attend the meeting would not face any problem in finding the place.
In the meeting we will introduce ourselves and will share our weak and strong points. With the help of one's strong points rest of the group will try to improve their weak points. We will also discuss how can we help each other in future and what is needed to be done to improve our communication skills.
So guys pls let me know the name of the members who are interested in attending the above mentioned meeting along with their mobile number. You can send your confirmation at my email id
(suggestions are also solicited to change the time and venue if in case anyone is not comfortable with this).
Thanks with regards

Dear HR fraternity Members,
I am extremely sorry for responding so late. Actually I was under the assumption that this thread is dead and members have stopped taking interest in it. Since there were no new posts, so I left looking into this thread. But today when I saw it (by chance) I really felt happy and posting my response. Well we all, especially I, need to improve on the subject matter.
You all might be aware (new members in this thread) that I arrange a meeting on this topic in the beginning. Few members replied and confirmed their attendance as well but nobody turned up at the moment and I was alone attending the meeting. How funny na?
Again after looking the interest of so many members I thinking we should fix another meeting. I propose a meeting at Faculty of Arts, Near Vivekanad Statue in front of “Central Reference Library”, North Campus, Delhi University either on 21st December or 25th December at 12.00 noon. Pls reply and tell me if it is suitable for you to attend the meet at that place and that time.
Thanks with regards,
Dev

Dear Sir,
As I feel that communication is very important for every person, whether we talk in Hindi, English, or any other language, I completely agree with your point. I have studied in Hindi medium, so I feel that I am not very well-versed in English communication, but I am continuously trying to improve myself, and I would be happy if you include me in your group.

Hi All,
There is another post from Ramesh...please read this "Becoming Fluent in Speaking and Writing English."
If you want to become a fluent English speaker, you should take some advice: There are four skills in learning English which are reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
The most important thing you must bear in mind is that reading and listening are inputs, whereas speaking and writing are outputs. In other words, if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills, you should first master the skills of reading and listening. There are some ways that you can do so, which I will try to summarize.
Reading
Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the structure, unfamiliar words, etc., as you read. There is no need to stick to some complicated grammar structures or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact that you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example, in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or structures in it. To begin reading, I recommend the Penguin Readers books. They are classified by level of difficulty.
Listening
As for listening, there are two options:
Aside from reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes.
You can only concentrate on your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening.
I myself prefer the latter because when you are skillful and native-like at reading, your listening skill grows automatically. Since you have lots of inputs in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.
For listening, I recommend cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Their languages are easy and do not contain complicated phrases or slang terms. Or if you are good at listening, you can listen to VOA or BBC programs broadcasted every day. Again, the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably taking some notes.
If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a little effort, they will become perfect.
Note: Ramesh, thanks for this post, dear.
