To maintain the Principle of Natural justice, the delinquent employee is served with a notice justifying the charges of his/her offence/misconduct and asking for explanation or to present his/her stand on the charges within a reasonable time so that he/she is given reasonably a fair chance to present his/her case is called show cause notice.
eg. An employee remains absent from duties frequenty without prior sanction or intimation and without valid reasons or remaining absent from duties without intimation for more than 10 consequtive days, he is liable for disciplinary action under applicable standing orders.
Assume he's been issued with warning letters for this misconduct many times earlier, still he is not improving, then he may be served with SCN asking why appropirate disciplinary action cannot be initiated against him. In some cases, there can be 1st SCN, 2nd SCN & Final SCN so as to provide ample of chances for improvement. Still no improvement is seen, then the employer can initiate appropriate action against him.

In what capacity were you working in the company? Have you got handing over taking over records? When did the company discover 2.5 lakhs shortage? Give more details for better answers.

Since your service with the employer is no longer in existence, there is no employer employee relation currently. Under this circumstances, the employer cannot issue any show cause notice or charge sheet to you.

@Riteshmaity,
It is a technicality that show cause notice or chargesheet cannot be issued to this person who is presently an ex employee.
But issue of allegation or claim regarding 2.5 lakh will have to be addressed by the person.
That is why I asked for more details and to see whether any practical solutions cn be suggested.

I think maximum the ex-employee can do is that reply to the show raising the technicality point first, that such show cause is not maintainable on him as he is an ex employee and they do not have an employer-employee status currently.
And on the point of allegation, he has to clearly deny it. I do not think there is any more required by the ex employee.
