Subject: Attention to All Airline HR Personnel

Making an HR Manual for an Airline Corporation is an extremely strenuous task and differs significantly from other corporations due to variations in organizational structure, pay structure, a wide range of designations, and more. Fortunately, my department has successfully completed the manual for my company. Currently, I am working on developing a policy manual for a FICTIONAL Airline Corporation, focusing on ground services operations.

I am submitting the Table of Contents for your review. As I gather feedback from experienced HR professionals in the airline industry, I will finalize the manual for potential publication to benefit everyone. Your input is valuable. The document provided is currently only available for printing; however, if a Word version is needed, I will make it available upon request.

Best Regards,
Please keep me informed about your views!

Hello Asif,

Can you help me out with what are the most common questions asked during an interview at an airline company and how to tackle them? My interview is scheduled at one of the airline companies, and my profile is that of an HR Generalist.

Looking forward to your reply.

I'm extremely sorry JR, but I'm creating the policy manual to send it to publishers so that people like you can access something that is not available anywhere. It's intended to assist Airline HR employees by providing them with guidelines. However, if there is a specific policy you need help with, I can probably give you a summary.

It would be advisable to include the following:

HR Philosophy
Role of the HR Department
Job Descriptions
HR Office
Training Facilities
Checklist including examples of forms
Contracts
Employee Facilities
Suggested employee entrance
Restaurant
Locker room
Recreation room
Accommodation
Transportation
Healthcare
Employee appearance
Leave of absence
Employee calendar
Noticeboards
Termination of employment
Exit interview

Let me know if you need other information.

Thanks

Here are two final policies that I'm including in the manual.

By the way, I've changed the project to making an employee manual rather than an HR policy. That way, it's easier to give a general viewpoint since HR policies are closely intertwined with local laws, which tend to differ when compared in terms of each country. Advice and recommendations are more than welcome. Please don't hesitate to contribute your point of view.

Hi Asef Zaman,

Thank you for sharing the HR Manual for the Aviation Industry. I am working on an HR Policy for Pilots. Could you please send me the PDF files to my email ID as I am unable to open the files? I would appreciate it if you could also email me some more relevant material to assist in creating the HR Policy for the pilots.

Hi!

I have seen your manual outline, and it looks good and very exhaustive in content.

However, I have some comments and suggestions:

1. Manuals with this type of content are called "Employee Handbook" (EH).

2. The contents of a good EH should be limited to things that the company wants every employee to know. It should be written in an easy-to-read and carry material, so employees can conveniently bring it with them every day. Normally, these include the following:

2.1 The Conditions of Employment
2.2 Compensation and Benefits
2.3 Safety, Health, and Security
2.4 Code of Discipline

3. The other critical areas and dimensions of HR work can be written separately in another manual (e.g., HR Policy Manual) that can be distributed to Managers and Supervisors as a guide on the details of the things mentioned in the Employee Handbook, especially the following areas:

3.1 Manpower Planning & Structure Policy
3.2 Compensation Policy
3.3 Benefits Administration Policy
3.4 Timekeeping and Salary Administration Policy
3.5 Training and Development Policy
3.6 Labor Relations Policy
3.7 Personnel Movement Policy
3.8 Organization Development Policy
3.9 HRIS Management Policy
3.10 Discipline Management Policy
3.11 Recruitment Policy

Dear Asef Zaman,

It's good that you have taken the initiative to prepare this manual. In the "Code of Discipline," have you included policies on sexual harassment and workplace romance? These two aspects are quite important.

In India, quite often, pilots of airlines go on strike. There was a recent case, and another one is forthcoming. Have you included these incidents as well?

In the work regulations section, have you included grooming and deportment guidelines? This is crucial for cabin crew.

Ok...
