Is there a provision in any organisation for leave or any other benefit for female employees undergoing the "In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)" process ?. If not what would be the ideal way in which an Organisation can support their female staff , without involving any additional financial implication on the organisation?. Would sincerely appreciate some views on this.

Hi

I don't think there is a separate statutory provision for this.

However it is upto the respective Organization to grand leave with pay or without pay and help the employee to undergo the treatment peacefully. Once pregnancy is confirmed Matetnity benefit will be applicable.

Dear Kenneth Dias,

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a type of assisted reproductive technology (ART) where sperm and an egg are fertilized outside of the human body. IVF is a complex process that involves retrieving eggs from ovaries and manually combining them with sperm in a lab for fertilization. Several days after fertilization, the fertilized egg (now called an embryo) is placed inside a uterus. Pregnancy occurs when this embryo implants itself into the uterine wall.

Organisations are concerned with the woman employee's eligibility for maternity leave. Since the woman becomes pregnant, she is eligible for maternity benefits. The method of pregnancy does not matter.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar
