My company has an in-and-out punch online system which we have been using since the start of the lockdown in the country. If someone misses the out punch, they are allowed to request approval within the same month.

Recently, the system was changed, and the time allowed for a missed out punch was reduced to 48 hours. It is important to note that for the 14th missed out, the number of days available for a request is 1, and for the 15th missed out, the request has to be submitted the same night, no later than 12 midnight.

Somehow, on the 14th and 15th of this month, I checked in on time but missed to check out. Because I had the 48-hour concept in my mind, when I tried to rectify the attendance on the 16th, the system did not allow it. When I contacted HR, they refused any help citing policy. I requested assistance the same day, but there was no response.

Is it fair on the employer's part to not pay for these days when only the out punch was missing?

Hi,

Systems and processes are implemented to follow, not to violate. Why did you miss the punchline? Every organization follows certain rules regarding late coming or failure to use the biometric access system. Since the above is a rule, the only thing you can do is to make a request to your superior/HR with an assurance that you will not miss it in the future. Hopefully, they might consider your request.
