Hi,

It depends. If you are joining in the middle of the financial year, the Payroll/Accounts team will ask for computation of previous employment along with your investment projection to determine your monthly income tax (IT) deduction.

  • How I will submit computation of total income for that financial year. I mean by which document? If my parents or friend give me some money, should I consider it in total income?

(Fact Checked)-The computation of total income should be based on your official salary documents. Gifts from parents/friends are generally not considered as part of total income for tax purposes. (1 Acknowledge point)

  • Hi,

The computation of total income can be obtained from your past employer. It is essentially a statement showing all your earnings and allowances earned, investment proof declared, and income tax deducted. Money received from your parents or friends will not be considered as part of the total earnings as far as the new employer is concerned. However, if you have received a large sum of money from your parents or acquaintances through a bank transaction, then you will need to calculate and pay additional income tax at the time of filing, apart from what the employer has already deducted.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user reply contains inaccuracies. It's not appropriate for a new employer to request ITR documents from a previous organization during a background check. The total income computation also differs from the user's explanation.

  • The question is not really clear what do you mean ITR of previous company? Are you talking of your ITR? Or the company you used to work for?

  • No need to provide your income tax document; it is your private document. No background verification can be done through ITR because it can be created and filed based on our requirements, such as loan purposes, tax purposes, and other reasons. Additionally, we can adjust the income by amending the return. Therefore, it is not useful for background verification.

  • Hi,

It can help companies verify that the information the candidate has provided regarding his or her previous compensation is true since it clearly contains every salary transaction, including tax deductions. Therefore, with Form 16 verification, you can fairly determine their new salaries and incentives for when they do start working for your company.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-[The reply contains inaccurate information. Companies typically cannot request an individual's ITR (Income Tax Return) documents from previous organizations during a background check. The disclosure of such sensitive financial information is governed by strict data privacy laws and would generally be considered an invasion of privacy. Employers can verify past employment and salary details through formal references and employment verification processes without accessing personal tax documents.](url)
