Hello! I have recently been offered a job position as a content writer position in a gemstones company. However, due to possible (seems to be very little or none) contact with gems, I have been asked to submit 3 blank cheques on the joining date as per precautionary measure. Is it right for the employer to ask such?

Dear Colleague,
It is not lawful to demand " Blank Cheque" from any one. Never ever give such cheque and later it will hit you back any time. It is not a healthy practice hence refrain from such practice from your side and look for a better offer next.

I wonder what is the meaning of the demand anyway.
It is stupid because legally it can not be used.

The employee just has to issue a stop-payment order right now and sit pretty. Even if there is a reason and the employer banks the cheque later, it will not clear. Or the employee may give a blank cheque of a different bank altogether where he has no money.

In case they think of filing a sec 138 case, the existence of a dispute and absence of a real debt, will result in the case getting thrown out of the court. And if the employee files a FIR stating the cheque is stolen, then the criminal liability may come on the company.

Hi, It is totally illegal and unlawful to demand blank cheques from anyone, it is never a binding document per se. Do not pursue this employment further.
