Dear HR Fraternity,
I am unable to use DSC in EPFO. I've tried all the different solutions given on the internet but still have not succeeded. Please let me know which browser, version, and update of Java should be used. Also, please clarify if it should be 32-bit or 64-bit.
Thank you.

Internet Explorer 8 or above will work (remember it is IE and not Edge) for Java. It will auto-update itself. Just open IE, log in to the EPF site, and go to DSC registration. It will route to the Java site and download the requisite version. Install that and log back in.
After the installation of Java, the user has to manually add the exception list in Java for the main page link of the EPFO site: https://unifiedportal-emp.epfindia.gov.in/epfo/.

Firefox or Chrome do not work with DSC as far as I am aware. As @Glidor mentioned, you can use IE8 but not Edge (since Edge is based on Chromium). Another option is to use Maxthon Browser, which is based on IE.
On a different note, isn't this a security risk? The government is requiring people to continue using an old unsupported browser like IE for DSC authentication, as no modern browser supports it. This is true for all government portals that require DSC. So much for Digital India.

Safari browser also works fine on the Mac platform (I prefer Apple platform). DSC is issued as PKI (Public Key Information), but once the DSC is registered, the signatory/owner can use an e-signature in place of DSC. For an e-signature, all platforms are the same, as most of the time, it does not use a Java applet.
@HBJ, how can I use Esign, I am not able to use it. Could you please let me know

At the DSC registration page, there is an option available for the registration of e-sign. However, it is limited to the DSC signatory person only, who can register themselves for the e-sign and use it without the DSC. It is a mobile OTP-based verification system and remains valid until the DSC validity is active.
