Dear Gokulnath Arumugam,
You could have given a little more information about your industry, type of product, and what type of Management Trainee (MT) you wanted to induct.
Whether the above information was provided or not, what matters is whether you have prepared a Management Training Programme (MTP) in your company. Recruitment of an MT is a part of the MTP.
Recruitment of the candidate for the MT depends on communication skills, job knowledge, etc. A few companies have started laying emphasis on attributes like business acumen or an innovative mindset also.
Depending on the size of the company and the number of departments, the MTP could last for 12 to 24 months. A poorly designed MTP may not retain the MTs, and this could harm the reputation of the company.
To run the MTP successfully, an organization's supportive culture is also required. Imitating the industry leader to execute the MTP may not work as the MT may not like the mismatch in the organization's culture and the MTP, and he/she could abandon the course.
In some companies, MTs are rotated across departments. They are given exposure to almost all departments. After completing a stint in each department, a test is conducted to assess how much knowledge the MT has gained. The results of the tests are recorded meticulously, and if several MTs are recruited, the "Best MT of the year" award is also given to the topper. In other companies, MTs are just selected and made to work only in one particular department.
Earlier, I had replied to a similar query. You may click here to refer to it.
Final Note: Recruitment of the MT is fine; however, freshly passed MBAs or would-be MBAs are smart and could ask you questions about the MTP as well. In such a case, if the HR or any other functional area fails to give credible replies, the students of B-school could turn down your offer. I know 1-2 cases where HR and other functional heads were badly criticized by students and had to return with bruised egos. Therefore, be cautious about the institution you choose!
All the best!
