Hi Team,
Hope you all are well!! I need some help with the maternity benefits for teachers in a school. Can the employer force the teacher to take maternity leave? If there is any link that can be shared on this thread, it will be really useful. Awaiting a response at the earliest.

Dear Aaron,
I am confused reading your post. You mentioned that the employer, i.e., the school, is forcing the teacher to go on maternity leave. Is this true? You received a link stating that the teacher is entitled to maternity leave, which is paid. However, you do not wish to take the leave. If the employer does not permit you to avail the leave, they will be liable under the MB Act 1961.

Hi,
The teacher has completed a year at the particular school and is due to have her pregnancy in January. However, the school principal has asked her to take maternity leave right away after she requested a day off to visit the doctor. How should we handle this situation? If we speak to the management, we need legal points as a backup.
This information was verbally communicated to the teacher over the phone, and there has been no response from the school so far. Please assist me with this. Is there a better way to address this situation? Can labor laws or human rights provide support in cases of rude behavior or the forceful application of maternity leave?

WhatsApp messages have been sent to the principal politely to reconsider working as it's too early to take maternity leave when the due date is in January. However, the principal has ignored everything.
