Hi Pallavik,
At present, our travel policy is as follows:
- 2-wheeler: INR 3/KM
- 4-wheeler: INR 6/KM
I am in the process of revising the rates for air/train bookings and hotel accommodation as well. I am not aware of when these stated mileage allowances for 2/4 wheelers came into effect. Are these rates applicable for commuting between residence and office, and/or for official travel duties as well? In any case, these rates may need to be revised upwards to align with fuel prices, etc. A revision considering the average mileage per liter of fuel and city riding conditions may be appropriate. I would suggest revising it to a minimum of Rs. 5/KM and Rs. 12-15/KM.
Regarding air/train and hotel accommodation, it may be reasonable to consider not straining your company's finances by adopting prevailing rates of carriers/hotels. Instead, align with the rates prescribed for Central or state government employees under TA rules of FR/SR. Higher slabs/rates may also be fixed for senior officials to suit their status and meet their official requirements. A circular is attached to assist you in this matter.
